Lead Hardware Engineer - Electrical/Mechanical (ADAS)
Remote (USA) | Quarterly Travel | Full-Time
The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Lead Hardware Engineer to build the next generation of automotive diagnostic and ADAS calibration equipment. This is a hands-on, highly visible role for a builder who connects electrical engineering, mechanical design, embedded controls, and manufacturing, and who'll become the technical owner.
What You'll Own
- Own the electrical architecture (boards, harnesses, power distribution, batteries, and sensor interfaces) from schematic review through bench bring-up and failure diagnosis
- Specify and troubleshoot embedded/PC-based controls and sensor data-acquisition systems (CAN, USB, I²C/SPI, RS-232/485); write the Python/C/C++ utilities the job needs
- Guide the mechanical design of enclosures, mounts, and fixtures, and own the alignment tolerances that determine whether a calibration is accurate
- Apply DFM/DFA early, support pilot builds and production ramp, and partner directly with fabricators, molders, and contract manufacturers
- Root-cause field and manufacturing failures and feed what you learn back into the design
- Help stand up the hardware-development function itself - standards, supplier relationships, and eventually the team around you
What You Bring
- 6+ years developing electromechanical products, with real electrical depth and meaningful mechanical responsibility
- At least one physical product you personally carried from requirements through production and field support
- Hands-on bench skill - schematic/board review, harness fab, soldering/rework, confident with a DMM, scope, and logic analyzer
- Practical 3D CAD with real GD&T and tolerance-analysis capability
- A builder mentality: hands-on while setting direction, challenging suppliers, and developing others
Automotive & ADAS Experience
This role calls for an automotive-minded engineer who's comfortable around vehicle sensor systems and the tight tolerances that calibration work demands - someone who's worked close to ADAS hardware or vehicle electronics and picks up vehicle communication protocols quickly.
