Description

About the Company ARC is a rapid-growth enterprise technology company. Since launching in late 2021 to serve frontline workers, ARC has become a category-defining device management solution and trusted partner to some of the world’s largest enterprises, including Walmart, lululemon, Gap, ShipBob, and several global leaders in supply chain and logistics. ARC was born out of ChargeItSpot, the consumer-facing tech company that pioneered phone charging solutions starting in 2012.

Through smart lockers integrated with proprietary software, ARC stores, secures, and charges the company-owned handheld devices (made by Zebra, Honeywell, and others) that frontline workers rely on every day for package scanning, inventory lookup, task management, mobile point of sale, and more.

Clients turn to ARC because managing and maintaining enterprise mobile devices post-purchase is harder than it looks. Devices go missing (~25% annually), stop working, or run out of power, costing payroll time, money, and productivity. ARC virtually eliminates these issues, ensuring devices are functional, charged, and accounted for – while improving productivity and experience for teams on the ground.

Market demand for ARC has been overwhelming. Device management has been a massive unmet need for decades, and ARC – backed by a decade of technical expertise and a homegrown patent portfolio – is uniquely positioned to solve it.

ARC’s Mission Minimize Device Waste. Maximize Worker Productivity. Make Life Easier.

ARC’s Vision Be the unrivaled leader in physical device management. With more than 25,000 ARC units expected to be deployed by 2030, ARC will simplify life for more than 1 million frontline workers every day.

Want to learn more? See the work we’re doing with Sam’s Club and Walmart Canada, as well as a recent investment to accelerate our next phase of growth.

About the Team At ARC, we surround ourselves with independent thinkers who are detail-oriented and customer-obsessed. Our clients have routinely called us “the most talented team they’ve ever worked with.” We value determination, resourcefulness, imagination, and follow-through. We want people who are ready to get things done.

Our focus is fierce, but it’s not all hard work. We take time to get to know each other through a daily game of Jeopardy, meals together, and nights out for karaoke. We operate a hybrid work model, with most team members working in the office a couple of days a week, and the rest remotely.

Our Core Values

We do what we say we will do.
Details matter. A lot.
Bias for action.
Customer obsession.
Diversity and authenticity.
No ego. Only outcome.
Think big.

About the Role ARC by ChargeItSpot is seeking an Assistant Controller – Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting to help build the company’s financial reporting, technical accounting, and internal control capabilities during a period of rapid expansion following the close of a growth equity financing. Reporting directly to the Controller, you will own the technical core of the accounting function and shape the reporting, controls, and systems that carry ARC through its next stage of growth.

This role is built for a CPA who has seen strong accounting functions from the outside in public accounting and from the inside in industry and now wants to build one. The technical work is genuinely substantive. ARC leases its smart locker units to enterprise clients under multi-year contracts, so you will work through lessor accounting under ASC 842, revenue recognition for bundled hardware, software, and service arrangements, internal-use software capitalization, and the accounting for debt and equity financings – alongside a Controller with deep lessor accounting experience at a global equipment finance company.

You will own technical accounting research and policy documentation, manage the annual external audit, and serve as the accounting lead on our general ledger migration and the rollout of a third-party lease portfolio servicing platform. As the finance organization grows, so does the scope of this role.

The role is hands-on, and will work closely with the Controller, CFO, and functional leaders across the company.

Requirements

Own the design, documentation, and operation of ARC’s internal control environment over financial reporting and key accounting and operational transactions.
Own the preparation and review of monthly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with US GAAP, including footnote disclosures.
Run a disciplined, repeatable month-end close, shortening the timeline and improving accuracy through better process, automation, and controls.
Draft and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and technical memos documenting ARC’s key accounting judgments.
Lead technical accounting research and conclusions across lessor accounting (ASC 842), revenue recognition (ASC 606), internal-use software (ASC 350-40), debt and equity financing transactions, and the application of current expected credit losses (CECL) (ASC 326-20).
Manage the annual external audit and maintain audit-ready schedules and documentation; support tax filings in coordination with our outside tax advisors.
Serve as the accounting lead on our general ledger migration and the implementation of our third-party lease portfolio servicing platform, including ownership of the servicing data that flows into the general ledger.
Supervise, review, and develop accounting staff as the team grows, building a team culture of accuracy and accountability.
Partner with FP&A, Sales, and Operations on the accounting implications of new contract structures, products, and markets before deals are signed.
Own lender reporting, including covenant compliance support and the related supporting schedules.

Qualifications

7–9 years of progressive accounting experience
Preferred 4–5 years in public accounting with a Big 4 firm followed by 3–4 years in the financial services industry.
Active CPA license.
Experience supervising staff and reviewing the work of others.
Advanced Excel skills and hands-on experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or a similar general ledger; experience with an ERP implementation is a plus.
Strong judgment and a process-improvement mindset, with the ability to identify problems, propose solutions, and see them through with stakeholders across the company.
Clear communicator who can explain technical conclusions to non-accountants and senior management.
Thrives in a fast-paced, lean environment, moving comfortably between hands-on work and process design.

Preferred Qualifications

Lessor accounting under ASC 842 and/or revenue recognition for hardware, software, or bundled service arrangements.
Experience with founder-led, rapidly scaling organizations.
Experience with debt and equity financing transactions, lender reporting, or transaction diligence.
Experience building or strengthening an internal control environment at a growing company.

The Candidate Your integrity and ethical standards are unwavering, and unassailable. You think several steps ahead and are equally comfortable building the model, challenging the assumptions behind it, and explaining what it means to the business. You are intellectually curious, detail-oriented, and decisive. You know when precision matters and when the business needs a timely answer with the best information available. You operate with low ego, strong judgment, and a bias for action, and you care more about getting to the right outcome than being right.

Location Remote possible for the right candidate; location to be discussed. ARC is headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, and the team operates on East Coast US business hours. You must be authorized to work in the United States.

Benefits

Stock options
Health, dental and vision insurance
Health Care FSA
401k plan with matching company contributions
Paid time off
Hybrid or remote environment

Why Join Us We’re building something ambitious and doing it with collaboration, conviction, and purpose. The team gels in a way that is special. Our alchemy is rooted in realness, curiosity, appreciation for each other’s differences, celebration for each other’s strengths, and a trust that fosters open feedback when we see an opportunity to do something better.

If you have the unique combination of skill and qualities we are looking for, please submit your resume at https://experiencearc.com/careers/. We’d love to hear how you’d like to contribute and be part of the journey.
