Original job description

As a Sr. GitLab DevSecOps Engineer, you will partner with public sector customers to help them successfully adopt and expand GitLab across their organization. You'll deliver services such as installation, migration, training, and advisory engagements, meeting customers where they are, from single-node Omnibus installations to larger reference architectures using infrastructure as code and configuration as code. In this role, you'll balance hands-on technical delivery with clear communication and project ownership, helping customers make practical choices that fit their goals, timelines, and environments. You'll also work closely with project managers and engagement managers to make delivery more consistent and improve how engagements are run. As you work with customers, you'll act as a feedback loop to GitLab's product and engineering teams by communicating insights that can improve GitLab features and delivery processes. This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working across multiple engagements, and succeeding in a remote, largely asynchronous environment. This position is onsite 5 days a week at the customer’s location in either Reston, VA or Springfield, VA. An active TS/SCI is required; CI Poly is preferred

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Professional Services engagements such as installation, migration, training, and advisory services to help customers achieve successful outcomes with GitLab, including completing projects on scope and on schedule.
  • Plan and execute GitLab deployments across a range of architectures, from single-node Omnibus installations to large reference architectures using infrastructure as code and configuration as code practices.
  • Oversee and perform migrations from multiple source systems to GitLab SaaS or self-managed GitLab, helping customers reduce risk, maintain momentum during change, and complete cutovers with minimal disruption.
  • Provide technical guidance across the GitLab feature stack, helping customers adopt best practices that fit their goals, constraints, and operating environment.
  • Partner closely with project managers and engagement managers by providing feedback and updates that improve delivery consistency, keep work on schedule, and reduce delivery issues across engagements.
  • Manage and deliver multiple customer projects at once, balancing customer outcomes with awareness of billable time and delivery priorities to meet utilization and delivery goals.
  • Mentor and assist other Professional Services Engineers by communicating expertise in specific technical areas and contributing to stronger, more repeatable delivery patterns.
  • Work closely with GitLab's product and engineering teams to remove blockers for customers and help improve GitLab features and delivery processes based on field insights, leading to faster issue resolution and more consistent delivery.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Professional experience with one or more infrastructure as code or configuration as code tools, such as Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Active TS/SCI is required; CI Poly is preferred
  • Ability to lead technical delivery end-to-end, including discovery, planning, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
  • Experience working in a consulting, technical advisory, or customer-facing IT environment.
  • Professional experience with DevOps or DevSecOps practices, processes, and tools.
  • Working knowledge of GitLab, including Git repositories, CI/CD pipelines, pipeline configuration, and automated software delivery workflows.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and continuous integration/continuous delivery concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with government customers and adapt to evolving technical requirements.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Frequently remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time looking at a computer screen.
  • Require computer camera to be on for all meetings.
  • Continuous verbal and written communication with others to exchange information.
  • Continuous repetitive movements that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Comprehension - Must continuously be able to understand direction and adhere to established procedures.
  • Organization - Must continuously be able to gather and classify information.
  • Reasoning and Decision Making - Must continuously use logic to analyze and interpret information and prioritize.
