Senior Accountant, Audit & Tax

Catalano, Caboor & Co. (CCC) | Lombard, Illinois | Full-time, hybrid (3 days in office, 2 remote)

About CCC

CCC is a 19-person public accounting firm in the western Chicago suburbs providing tax and audit services. At our size, you'll work directly with partners and clients, take on real responsibility, and see engagements from start to finish.

The Role

We're looking for an experienced accountant who is equally comfortable on audit engagements and in tax season. You'll report directly to a partner, lead and review the work of staff, and serve as a day-to-day point of contact for your clients. Our work splits roughly 50/50 between audit and tax, and we want someone who enjoys keeping both skill sets sharp.

Responsibilities

Audit

  • Plan, perform, and document audit, review, and compilation engagements in accordance with GAAS and applicable standards
  • Lead fieldwork, including risk assessment, testing, workpapers, and client communication
  • Draft financial statements and footnote disclosures
  • Review workpapers prepared by staff

Tax

  • Prepare and review individual, corporate, S-corporation, partnership, and nonprofit (Form 990) returns
  • Research tax issues and document conclusions
  • Assist with tax planning, estimates, and extensions
  • Respond to notices from taxing authorities

Leadership

  • Lead and review the work of staff and interns, giving timely, constructive feedback
  • Manage engagement budgets, deadlines, and workload across both service lines
  • Contribute to process improvement and the adoption of new technology

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • 5–7 years of public accounting experience with meaningful exposure to both audit and tax
  • CPA license preferred but not required
  • Experience with nonprofit, construction, and manufacturing clients
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, and federal and Illinois tax rules
  • Experience supervising or reviewing staff
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Our Tools

Engagement Manager, UltraTax CS, Canopy, CoCounsel, Filed, and QuickBooks. Familiarity with any of these is helpful, and we'll train you on the rest.

Schedule and Tax Season

  • Hybrid year-round: three days in the Lombard office, two days remote
  • Core hours are 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • Tax season expectation is 50 hours per week. You decide how to work those hours, as long as you're available during core hours
  • Dinner provided Tuesday and Thursday, and lunch on Saturdays during tax season
  • Summer flex Fridays: out at noon

What We Offer

  • Compensation: $100,000–$120,000, depending on experience and credentials
  • Health insurance
  • 401(k) with profit sharing
  • All required CPE paid for by the firm
  • Paid vacation of at least two weeks, increasing with tenure
  • Five paid sick days
  • Summer flex Fridays, with a 12:00 p.m. finish
  • Direct access to partners and a clear path to grow with the firm

CCC is an equal opportunity employer.
