Original job description

At Carrum Health, we have built a unique marketplace for specialty care with unparalleled patient experience Since 2014, we have been rewiring a fundamentally broken healthcare system. By connecting large employers directly with the nation's top-tier providers, our platform replaces a flawed fee-for-service model with one that actually works. If you are passionate about solving complex economic problems, driving systemic change in our healthcare system, and thriving in a people-first culture, we want you on our team. As a high-growth health tech company, we are seeking high-performing, exceptional talent to scale our platform and ensure that anyone in the country facing a specialty procedure has access to the life-changing Carrum benefit.

Our marketplace creates massive value for all stakeholders:

  • For Employers (Demand): Predictable, transparent pricing that slashes specialty care costs by up to 45% and eliminates waste
  • For Providers (Supply): Ability to gain market share while reducing administrative burden, empowering top-tier doctors to focus completely on delivering optimal care.
  • For Members (Users): A life-changing benefit with dedicated concierges, VIP access to the nation's best specialists, and little-to-no out-of-pocket costs.

The salary range for this role is $170,000 - $215,000 depending on geography and level of experience, plus equity and an annual bonus.

You will be the person who makes sure Carrum's cross-functional deliverables land on time, in the right order, with no surprises. You sit in the engineering org and run the operating rhythm for Product & Technology. Your programs span seven functions: product, data, engineering, infosec, infrastructure, IT and marketing. Typical work includes a new service line launch, an enterprise client go-live with SSO and data feeds, a security remediation program, a rebrand, a large infrastructure migration, or a partner integration. Each touches several teams that plan, prioritize and report differently. You make them move as one. You also own engineering and product operations: planning cadence, roadmap and capacity tracking, release management, delivery metrics and the tooling behind them.

  • Reports to: Chief Product & Technology Officer
  • Works daily with: engineering managers, product managers, the data lead, security, IT, marketing and business GMs
  • Type: full-time, individual contributor

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will...

  • Cross-functional program management
  • Turn strategic initiatives into executable programs: scope, milestones that each deliver usable value, owners, dependencies and a schedule every team has agreed to.
  • Keep one source of truth for what is in flight across all seven functions, and what is at risk.
  • Find dependency collisions early, such as a data feed that blocks a client launch or a security review that gates a release, and drive the trade-off to a decision.
  • Run program reviews and write crisp weekly status for leadership: what moved, what is stuck, what decision is needed and from whom.
  • Coordinate external parties when programs need them: clients, Centers of Excellence, TPAs and vendors.

Engineering and product operations

  • Run the planning and operational cadence: quarterly and annual planning, roadmap reviews, departmental offsites/all hands and capacity allocation across pods.
  • Own release management and launch readiness, including go/no-go checklists, cutover plans and stakeholder comms.
  • Define and report delivery health metrics (for example cycle time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, roadmap predictability) and use them to improve how pods plan and execute, not to police teams.
  • Own the operating tooling, such as Jira, or similar, docs and dashboards, and keep it lightweight.
  • Support compliance work that touches delivery: HIPAA, audit and accreditation evidence, change management and access reviews, in partnership with infosec and IT.
  • Mature our incident management practice: define severity levels and on-call expectations, run blameless retrospectives, and use incident trends to fix systemic issues.
  • Run the rollout of AI-native engineering practices across pods, including tool pilots, adoption tracking and training, partnering with engineering leads who set the technical standards.
  • Run the engineering and product onboarding program as we scale the team, partnering with engineering leadership, to deliver clear ramp plans and track time to first production deploy.

•

AI-native operations

  • Use AI agents and automation to remove status-chasing and manual reporting, so your time goes to judgment calls rather than spreadsheets.

What success looks like First 30 days. You know every program in flight, who owns it and where it stands. You have met the leads in all seven functions and published a single portfolio view. First 90 days. A weekly program review and status report is running and leadership relies on it. Planning and release processes are documented and followed. At least one high-visibility cross-functional launch has shipped on the date you committed to. First year. Leadership trusts the dates. Cross-team surprises are rare, and when they happen they surface weeks earlier than they used to. Delivery metrics are trending the right way, and the operating rhythm runs without the CPTO in the room.

We’re excited about you because you bring...

  • 5+ years as a technical program manager, or in a similar delivery role, in a software company. At least 2 of those years running programs that span engineering and non-engineering teams.
  • Enough technical depth to be credible with engineers. You can read an architecture diagram, follow an API or data integration discussion, and tell a real blocker from a soft one.
  • A track record of shipping multi-team programs on committed dates, with examples you can walk us through.
  • Strong written communication. Your status updates are short, specific and lead with the decision needed.
  • Comfort with ambiguity at a small company: you build the process you need, and only as much as you need.
  • Hands-on fluency with planning and tracking tools (Jira, Linear, Asana or similar) and with spreadsheets or dashboards for delivery metrics.
  • Practical use of AI tools in your own work, and curiosity about using agents to run operations.

Nice to have

  • Healthcare, health-tech, benefits or insurance experience, especially with PHI, HIPAA or payer and provider data.
  • Experience with security and compliance programs, such as audits, risk remediation or vendor reviews.
  • Experience running enterprise client implementations or partner integrations.
  • Background as a software engineer, data engineer or engineering manager.
  • Experience at a company scaling from tens to hundreds of employees.

Why you’ll love working with us...

  • We’re a hard-working, humble, and compassionate group motivated to solve the hard problems in healthcare today. You’ll work with talented, experienced co-workers from companies like Booz & Company, Teladoc, Hinge Health, Accolade, Angi, and Optum.
  • We champion a collaborative environment where team members can be autonomous, receive support and healthy feedback, and bring their authentic selves to work.
  • We carve out time to celebrate our successes and have fun. We’re a remote-first company with employees all over the United States. We offer holistic employee support with flexible working hours, generous time off, paid parental leave, opportunities to connect virtually and in-person, and more.
  • We embrace our team’s diversity of thought, experience, and interests and know that doing so makes us stronger as a company. Carrum has an active employee-led Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) committee alongside several employee resource groups (ERGs) that support parents, women, and various underrepresented groups.
  • You’ll feel proud that the work you do each day directly impacts people’s lives in big and meaningful ways.
  • Carrum is remote-first, but we believe the best work often happens in person. This role may include occasional travel for team offsites, client events, or company gatherings.

Other benefits:

  • Stock option plan and performance bonus for eligible employees
  • Flexible schedules and remote work
  • Chicago and San Francisco offices available as an option
  • Flexible PTO, within reason
  • Summer Fridays (sign off @ 1pm local time)
  • 15+ paid holidays, including Juneteenth, World Mental Health Day, and Carrum Health Day
  • Annual holiday shutdown in December
  • Paid parental leave
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance
  • Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
  • 401K retirement plan
