Special Needs Caregiver Needed For One Child

About the Job We are the parents of a special needs child who need help and respite care. We prefer that someone come to our house, since our child is special needs. We will most likely be home while care is being provided to catch up on all of the other things we can’t get done normally and also for some downtime. We are currently in the process of applying for services and funding with OPWDD.

Our child loves Sesame Street, Donkey Hoatie, Dr. Seuss, and The Muppets (basically anything that has those sorts of puppet format/Jim Henson style). They are usually sensory seeking and likes lights. They also like to play with their stuffed animals (usually by themselves- in their own world- very inwardly imaginative). Sand, water, soap, bubbles, and cutting hair are also activities they enjoy.

Child is special needs (disabled), non-verbal, with severe autism spectrum disorder. They need help with most things such as getting water and food (can eat on their own). They need help with the bathroom (not toilet trained, uses pull-ups), washing hands, and getting dressed.

We are looking for someone who is very patient and creative and able to handle the physical demands of dealing with a special needs child. Preferably someone with special education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and/or other medical experience (volunteer, student, professional, with their own special needs child/sibling).

You need a car to get to our house. The nearest Suffolk bus lines are 77Y, 52A, or 52B. However it is still a long walk to our house from the nearest stops.

Our family includes our child’s mother and father (us), and our child (only child) and one cat. The cat pretty much stays to itself and when the cat does interact with our child (or vice versa) it’s very limited on both ends.Job basics How often: Part timeHourly rate: $20.00 - $30.00/hourWho we're looking for
