Overview
Part-time contractor with guaranteed 10 - 15 hours per week. Opportunity to convert to full time after 6 months | Denver, CO | Remote
The Opportunity
Business Network Consulting (BNC) is seeking a senior, hands-on developer to design, support and extend custom applications, data integrations and automation solutions for small-to-medium-sized business clients. This role is ideal for a practical problem-solver who can move comfortably between code, databases, APIs, cloud services and client conversations.
You will take ownership of business-critical line-of-business solutions that operate across on-premises, hybrid and cloud environments. The work includes maintaining existing deployments, improving reliability and documentation, troubleshooting vendor and legacy-system dependencies, and delivering new solutions that create measurable value for clients.
This is a developer-first position with a consulting mindset. Success requires technical depth, clear communication, sound judgment and the ability to manage multiple client priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Own, maintain, troubleshoot and enhance production applications and integrations that support core client operations.
- Design and build data pipelines, ETL processes, database interfaces, views, stored procedures and reporting integrations.
- Develop automation, workflow and integration solutions using PowerShell, Python, application code, APIs, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Power Apps, SharePoint Agents, task schedulers and services.
- Integrate cloud platforms, SaaS products, vendor systems and legacy applications using REST, OAuth, JSON, XML, SOAP and related technologies.
- Support secure handling, transformation and delivery of sensitive business data, including solutions involving regulated or personally identifiable information.
- Analyze unfamiliar codebases and production issues, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes with appropriate testing and change controls.
- Document source code, architecture, dependencies, credentials requirements, deployment procedures, monitoring and support runbooks.
- Work directly with client stakeholders and outside vendors to gather requirements, explain options, set expectations and coordinate delivery.
- Estimate work, define milestones and manage multiple development and support priorities through BNC’s project-management processes.
- Collaborate with BNC systems engineers on infrastructure, cloud, identity, security, networking and deployment requirements, ensuring solutions meet data-privacy, governance and responsible-AI standards.
- Mentor engineers who support automation and development-adjacent work, and contribute to technical standards and reusable practices.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with software development, database programming, coding and scripting.
- Strong production experience.
- Strong RDBMS Database skills, including experience with AWS RDS, SQL Server, Azure SQL, T-SQL, data modeling, ETL and database troubleshooting.
- Experience building and supporting API integrations using technologies such as REST, OAuth, JSON, XML and SOAP.
- Hands-on experience with prompt engineering and GenAI application design, including multi-step workflows, agent architectures, tool integrations and conversational experiences rather than simply operating AI tools.
- Ability to evaluate and work across multiple AI and development platforms, selecting practical tools based on client requirements rather than relying on a single ecosystem.
- Experience supporting business-critical applications and integrations across on-premises, hybrid and cloud environments.
- Ability to understand and maintain solutions that span multiple languages, platforms, vendors and legacy systems.
- Experience with source control, structured testing, deployment practices and production support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organization, ownership and independent problem-solving within defined policies and procedures.
- Willingness to support occasional after-hours or weekend work when a production issue or deployment requires it.
Preferred Experience
- Client-facing consulting or professional-services experience
- Application development with one or more of the following: C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node, React Java, PHP, C++, VB/VBA, HTML/CSS or comparable languages.
- Cloud development and integration experience with Azure, AWS and/or Google Cloud.
- Proper deployment strategy (nomenclature varies across cloud platforms) - container instances, containers, functions, static webapps, serverless storage types,
- Data and credential security – (nomenclature varies across cloud platforms) passwordless methods, managed identity, key vaults, secrets, keystores, POLP everywhere – (Principal of Least Privilege)
- Data Compliance – knowledge and understanding of GDPR, PII, HIPAA, SOC2, SOX, and other types of compliance environments.
- DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, containers or microservices-based architectures.
- Deep experience with the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Platform, SharePoint, Teams, Power BI, Entra ID, Azure AI services, Exchange and Intune integrations.
- ERP, financial-systems, CRM, HR platform, business-intelligence or data-warehouse integrations.
- Security tooling and practices, including secrets management, least-privilege access, logging, monitoring and secure data transfer.
- Experience building AI-enabled business solutions with tools such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, Claude or comparable GenAI platforms, including agentic patterns, workflow orchestration and integrations with business data and applications.
- Relevant Microsoft AI, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure, AWS, database, security, networking or DevOps certifications.
What Success Looks Like
- Clients can rely on their applications and integrations for day-to-day operations, with fewer single points of failure.
- Existing solutions become easier for BNC engineers and client teams to understand, support and extend.
- New development work is practical, secure, documented and aligned with the client’s business objectives.
- Client stakeholders receive clear advice, realistic timelines and professional communication from discovery through ongoing support.
- Build a long-term career with BNC.
