Original job description

Location NYC (on-site) About AI Company

AI Company is building an AI powered collaborative workspace for biopharma’s commercial and clinical teams. We focus on both human to human collaboration and human to AI collaboration. More concretely, we are building fundamental, AI-native, building blocks for knowledge work that both humans and reasoning AIs can use for doing work on behalf of biopharma companies.

We integrate deeply with pharma’s data systems and layer on advanced AI to assist in decision-making across critical research and development processes. We help scientists and pharma companies bring life-saving therapies to market faster and more efficiently.

We’re backed by top investors - including Y Combinator, Wireframe Ventures, and Crosslink Capital - and have strong traction with major pharma clients. Our culture is defined by kindness, intensity, direct communication, intellectual honesty, and grit.

What We’re Looking For

We need a restless builder and inspiring leader. Someone who can help to shape the product and engineering function from day one. You’ll be a go-to technical authority and organizational driver.

You look to lead and see yourself as a decision maker
You’re technically strong and thrive on shipping great code, and guiding others to do the same.
You’re relentless. You see challenges as sprints, not hurdles.

You’ll have ownership to shape our product roadmap, define how we leverage AI for our users, and recruit a team that can scale with us. This is an in-person role in NYC. We’ll help with relocation if you’re not here yet.

Key Responsibilities

You will work at the founding executive level to set the vision, drive the roadmap, hire and manage a team of engineers and PMs, implement product development cycles, and build an elite engineering culture.

Define the product & technical vision for our AI-powered Workspace

Continuously scan emerging AI research to implement cutting-edge techniques (retrieval, LLMs, agentic AI, RAG systems, multi-step agents, vector DBs, etc.) and help align team and resources towards prioritization and execution.
Be the cross-functional glue - aligning engineering, product, and business goals to meet both short-term traction and long-term vision.
Lead execution and set a culture of engineering excellence. Write and review code across our stack (React, TypeScript, NodeJS, PostgreSQL, Python). Push on building rapid prototypes to iterate quickly based on user feedback, and ensure top-notch performance and scalability for when product bets prove out over time.
Drive best practices in architecture, testing, and DevOps - be the gold standard for code quality and engineering excellence and help raise the team to your level.

Recruit & Lead a High-Performing Team

Attract and onboard A+ engineering talent who match our hunger and ambition.
Mentor existing engineers, instilling a culture of accountability, curiosity, and constant improvement.
Foster a tight-knit environment of direct feedback, collaboration, and healthy debate - where everyone pulls together.

Represent AI Company

Engage with customers, partners, and investors, confidently articulating our technical edge and product strategy.
Evangelize our mission and AI approach at conferences, webinars, and industry events.
Collaborate with the leadership team on strategic initiatives, from pricing models to go-to-market strategies.

About You

Culture of excellence. You’ve worked in engineering teams with an extremely high bar for excellence and know what great looks like. You are excited to implement your learnings, adapt them to your style, and build Argon’s culture of excellence. You like to be hands-on across the entire team and balance speed with excellence.
AI native. You’ve been working with LLMs for the past few years and are comfortable working with vector databases, RAG systems, and prompting. You’re driven to stay up to date with SOTA techniques and models to get the most out of advances in AI.
World class engineer: 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience, comfortable operating at both an architectural and code level. You can operate on a first-principles level and balance trade-offs between speed and technical debt.
Front-to-Back Mastery: Familiar with React, TypeScript, NodeJS, PostgreSQL, Python, and comfortable learning new tools at breakneck speed.
Startup DNA: You’ve thrived in an early-stage environment before or are excited to push yourself to the next level and build from the ground up. You’re action oriented, light on your feet, solve ambiguous problems, and own outcomes. You balance the tension between moving fast and pivoting when you see a better path with long term thinking and a high engineering bar.

Why AI Company

Significant Ownership. Generous equity in a high-growth AI startup, plus competitive salary. You’ll build out a world-class engineering team and shape the culture of a rapidly scaling company.
Founding Experience. You will get to join as a founder at an already well-funded startup with strong initial traction. We have a substantial run-way, a strong list of initial partners with tons of room to grow.
Cutting-edge Technical problems. Constant exposure to the latest in AI, with the freedom to experiment and push boundaries.
In-Person Team. You’ll work out of our NYC office where your team will be located and set the vibe. You can define what the culture in the office looks like, how meetings are run, and add your own decorative taste :)
Engineering First Culture of Grit, Kindness, and Autonomy. We don’t believe these are mutually exclusive. We work hard to push each other but also treat each other with empathy and respect. We empower individuals to drive decisions and projects forward and aim to build a meritocratic flat organization.
