Original job description
The Brown University School of Public Health (SPH) is seeking to hire an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor for a tenure-track position focused on maternal-child health. This position will carry an appointment in any one of SPH’s four Departments – Health Services, Policy & Practice; Behavioral and Social Sciences; Epidemiology; or Biostatistics – with an expected, though flexible, start date of July 1, 2027.
There is special interest in researchers focused on maternal health, but researchers across a range of interests pertaining to parents and parenting, child (birth through adolescence), and family health are encouraged to apply. The faculty member hired to this position will engage in a combination of research, education, and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to sustain and grow an externally funded research program relevant to maternal and child health; work collaboratively with faculty and trainees across the university; and address key public health problems that affect parents, children, and families. The emphasis of this person’s research is expected to focus on domestic issues, though talented researchers with a global health focus will be considered as well. Examples of content areas of interest include, but are not limited to, lifecourse transitions; perinatal epidemiology; patterns of chronic illness across the lifecourse; social, economic, and structural inequities, and social drivers of health.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent) in a public health-related field and evidence of strong methodologic training. However, individuals from various disciplines, and with diverse experiences, are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a demonstrated track record of research excellence and productivity, including demonstrated potential to maintain a successful program of extramural funding; ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and the ability to work across disciplines to address public health problems with creativity and rigor. Application instructions Interested applicants should submit a letter of application, a description of current and planned research, and an up-to-date curriculum vitae through Interfolio. Candidates should address how they would contribute to the research and/or teaching missions of our diverse and inclusive university community. For more information on the position, please contact Michael Silverstein at Michael_Silverstein@brown.edu.
Review of applications will begin on September 15, 2026, and will continue until appropriate candidate(s) are identified or the search is closed.
