Job Description:

Job Description - Intro

Broadcom’s Mainframe Software Division (MSD) is looking for a Software Engineer with a talent for developing software and contributing to a culture dedicated to quality, security, and a smooth user experience. This role focuses on our non-mainframe applications, with opportunities to expand your experience into mainframe software.

This role is in the Mainframe DevOps value stream, as a software engineer for one of our flagship products, Gen (formerly known as COOL:Gen or CA Gen). Gen is a low-code, model-driven development environment for enterprise applications. Gen enables global enterprises to generate and deploy applications in a single, integrated development environment for multiple platforms.

Broadcom has earned scores of global Workplace Excellence awards in the last few years - and there's a reason for that. It’s our aim to encourage global collaboration and innovation while supporting and developing our talented workforce. Broadcom empowers its employees to drive success for both the business and themselves. We value a lean and flat organization, with team members who work in-office, for a more collaborative culture that focuses on execution and delivering value.

The Opportunity

As a Software Engineer (ICB 3), you will focus on the development, quality, and security of Gen. This is a hands-on technical role: you will write code, contribute to code reviews, and help maintain technical standards and testing strategies. Working independently and collaboratively, you will address problems of diverse scope and partner with cross-functional team members and customers. While your primary focus will be on our distributed (non-mainframe) applications, you will also have the chance to engage with our mainframe software, offering a unique opportunity to broaden your technical expertise across the enterprise stack.

Work Location - ON SITE:

5465 Legacy Dr, Plano, TX 75024

Who You Are

You are a self-motivated team player who likes diving into complex, legacy environments to modernize them in response to evolving industry standards and customer needs. You collaborate easily with others, with an Agile mindset that makes communicating, responding to change, and continuous improvement a natural way of working for you. Your professional curiosity keeps you well informed of the latest technologies, and deepens your knowledge of legacy systems that are the foundation of global enterprise.

What You’ll Do

Research, develop, and implement high-quality, secure software solutions to maintain and enhance Gen's core product capabilities for non-mainframe applications.
Troubleshoot and fix customer cases that have been escalated to engineering.
Contribute to technical design to ensure robust security standards, while retaining a simple user experience.
Provide subject matter expertise by authoring technical blogs, webinars, and documentation on best practices.
Assist more junior staff members and collaborate with enterprise customers, helping them address complex requirements and supporting best practices in Gen modernization and security.
Design and implement automation for testing, build pipelines, and deployment processes to enhance product quality and delivery efficiency.

What You Need

Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development.
Bachelors or Masters in Engineering or equivalent degree.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand complex component relationships.
Growth mindset with a commitment to continuous personal and professional development.
Strong problem analysis and debugging skills.

Experience with designing and using web APIs like gRPC, REST, etc.
Proficiency and hands-on experience in designing and implementing test automation, build pipelines, and CI/CD processes.
Experience leveraging AI development tools to enhance software development productivity, code quality, and debugging workflows.

Additional skills that will benefit your efforts

Experience working with language servers or compilers.
Understanding of complex microservices, databases, and Client-Server communication.
Demonstrated experience implementing cybersecurity principles (e.g., cryptography, secure coding practices, access controls) and using industry-standard products like passkeys and TLS.
Experience in object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and Component Based Development (CBD).
Experience with Source Code Management tools, such as GitHub.
Knowledge and related product expertise in any of the following: Python, Typescript, Docker, Kubernetes, Spring Boot, Jakarta, Oracle, Db2, MS SQL Server, ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, COM, Windows MFC, Jenkins, Ansible.
