At Boston Scientific, we’ll give you the opportunity to harness all that’s within you by working in teams of diverse and high-performing employees, tackling some of the most important health industry challenges. With access to the latest tools, information and training, we’ll help you in advancing your skills and career. Here, you’ll be supported in progressing – whatever your ambitions.

About the role:

Boston Scientific was recognized by Forbes as one of the Best Workplaces for Engineers in 2026, reflecting a culture where engineers do meaningful work.

Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership for the development of complex medical device systems within the Interventional Cardiology division. In this role, you will utilize your background in systems engineering to drive the integration test strategy for a complex electro-mechanical system. You will understand the clinical workflows to be able to identify common use paths as well as alternate use and error use paths. You will bring structure and visibility to all console testing, identify gaps, and drive the integration, robustness and reliability testing needed to build confidence in the system.

The ideal candidate brings strong systems engineering fundamentals, hands-on integration and troubleshooting experience, and the ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams through complex technical challenges. This individual will serve as a key technical contributor and leader, collaborating closely with Systems Engineering, Software, Electrical, Mechanical, and other development partners to deliver safe, effective, and reliable medical technologies

Join one of Boston Scientific's most product-diverse divisions, supporting the development of next-generation medical technologies and strategic business initiatives. You will play a key role in enabling systems thinking, driving cross-functional technical integration, and ensuring the successful delivery of innovative products ranging from capital equipment and computing platforms to single-use therapeutic devices and supporting technologies.

Work model, sponsorship, relocation:

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This is an on-site role based at our Maple Grove (Arbor Lakes), Minnesota, location. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time.

Your responsibilities will include:

Lead system-level integration activities across hardware, software, firmware, electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical subsystems.
Understand clinical workflows to inform system integration planning · Develop and execute comprehensive integration strategies and plans that support incremental subsystem integration through full system-level testing.
Define and drive characterization, robustness, long duration, stress and fault injection tests that build confidence in system reliability.
Provide technical leadership to cross-functional engineering teams in identifying, investigating, and resolving complex system integration issues.
Drive system-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of hardware/software interface issues, unexpected system behaviors, and performance limitations.
Collaborate with Systems Engineering and subsystem teams to ensure interface definitions, architectural decisions, and design implementations support successful system integration.
Identify integration risks early and develop mitigation strategies to minimize technical and schedule impacts.
Serve as a technical subject matter expert and mentor to engineers supporting integration and test activities.
Author or co-author test protocols and reports when needed · Partner with lead systems engineer and verification test engineers to plan DV deliverables.
Manage technical execution by identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving complex system integration issues while communicating technical progress, risks, and recommendations to key stakeholders.
Develop and apply analytical methods, including modeling, simulation, mathematical analysis, and system characterization, to solve complex engineering problems and drive corrective actions.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers while advancing Systems Engineering methodologies and best practices across the organization.

Required qualifications:

Minimum of 10 years' experience with a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or a related discipline, or a minimum of 8 years' experience with a master's degree in one of these fields.
Experience defining and/or testing complex multidisciplinary systems integrating hardware, software, electrical, and mechanical components.
Experience defining test strategies and integration test plans for complex electromechanical systems
Experience in leading complex system analysis from concept through commercialization.
Proficiency with requirements management and traceability tools (e.g., Jama, Code Beamer, Jira, or equivalent).
Demonstrated experience in requirements engineering, including requirements development, decomposition, allocation, and traceability.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or Ph.D. in engineering, systems engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a formal systems engineering role.
Reliability engineering experience (life, stress, HALT or MTBF-type testing). Experience with fault injection or failure-mode testing
Experience developing and verifying medical devices within an FDA-regulated or ISO 13485-compliant environment.
Experience supporting verification of safety-critical or high-reliability systems.
Knowledge of medical device design controls, risk management, and applicable international standards.
Experience with automated testing, scripting, and test framework development using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools.
Experience with requirements and test management tools such as DOORS, Jama, Polarion, or equivalent platforms.
Experience supporting new product development from early prototypes through design verification, regulatory submission, and commercialization.
Experience with risk management, including the identification of effective risk controls.
