Original job description

Bait and Dock Manager About Bold Coast Seafood Bold Coast Seafood operates a 100,000 square foot facility on the working waterfront of Prospect Harbor, Maine, along with dock operations in Damariscotta and Steuben, built around a deepwater dock, a buying station, refrigerated tanks capable of holding over 200,000 pounds of lobster and crab, a state of the art processing floor, office space, and a research lab. We supply customers with high quality seafood harvested from the cold, clean waters of Maine, and we are currently expanding into a new business line: crab processing. We built this company on the belief that people do their best work when they feel good about where they work. We address problems directly, we expect people to bring solutions rather than just complaints, and we support each other, even on hard days. As we grow, we are looking for people who want to grow with us. About the Role Bold Coast Seafood is looking for a Bait and Dock Manager to oversee our shore-side marine operations, from offloading and weighing the catch to keeping bait in the right place at the right time. You will direct our dock crews, work closely with fishermen and vessel crews, and manage the ordering, movement, and inventory of bait across our wharfs and vendor relationships. Bait is central to our lobster business, and it comes in many forms: frozen, fresh, pre-salted, unsalted, boxed, and in vats, across multiple species. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role that touches nearly every part of our operation, from the dock to our vendors to our production teams, and you will partner closely with the General Manager to keep procurement, sales, and dock operations running efficiently. You do not need prior bait experience to apply. Victor will train the right person directly on bait sourcing, handling, and vendor relationships, and you will grow into making more independent decisions over time. We are also building a Bait Lead position alongside this role, so there is a clear path to grow and to develop your own successor and backup. What You Will Do Dock Operations

  • Coordinate the arrival, departure, loading, and offloading of commercial fishing vessels, skiffs, and tenders.
  • Record accurate weights, piece counts, fish tickets, and delivery manifests for incoming seafood.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise dock workers and equipment operators.
  • Keep dock machinery, cranes, hoists, forklifts, and all other equipment clean and functional.
  • Operate a forklift, or complete the required training and certification.

Bait Management

  • Oversee the buying, storage, ordering, and distribution of bait and bulk supplies, tracking what is coming in, what is going out, and what is on hand.
  • Track and manage bait inventory across multiple forms and multiple species.
  • Manage bait work orders and coordinate with vendors to keep supply on track.
  • Learn our bait sourcing, handling, and vendor relationships directly from Victor, and build toward more independent day-to-day decisions.
  • Help train and support a Bait Lead who serves as backup for this role and is building toward it as a next step.

Communication and Compliance

  • Stay in regular contact with fishermen, vessel crews, suppliers, transportation providers, dock managers, and production teams.
  • Partner with the General Manager to keep procurement, sales, and dock operations efficient.
  • Enforce federal, state, and local environmental, maritime, and food-safety regulations, and support a strong safety culture on the dock.
  • Flag issues and bottlenecks early, bring solutions rather than just problems, and help improve processes as the company grows.

What We're Looking For

  • Hands-on experience in commercial fishing, dock or pier operations, or bait handling is preferred. Prior bait experience is not required.
  • Proven ability to lead a team, handle fast-paced seasonal demands, and communicate well with fishermen.
  • Comfortable managing inventory and logistics across multiple locations and vendors.
  • Familiarity with inventory software, Microsoft Excel, and basic weight-scale or accounting systems.
  • Strong communication skills, since this role coordinates closely with docks, vendors, and production teams.
  • Ability to take direction and training early on, with room to grow into more independent decision-making.
  • Flexibility with schedule, since the workday follows the needs of the dock and the bait supply rather than a fixed clock-out time.
  • A positive, solution-oriented attitude that fits our culture of bringing ideas forward instead of just flagging problems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a live, wet, and physically demanding seafood environment, including cold storage and outdoor dock conditions in all kinds of weather.
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, and stand for extended periods while moving bait and inventory.
  • Comfortable traveling regularly between wharfs and vendor locations.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML), per Maine state requirements.
  • A growing company where you can see the direct impact of your work and help shape processes as we scale.

Bold Coast Seafood is an equal opportunity employer.
