Original job description

About BlueForge Alliance (BFA):

Established in 2022, BlueForge Alliance operates with a culture and singular purpose to serve the men and women defending our nation with the best equipment, platforms, and systems. BFA accomplishes this by strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base. We are specifically focused on advancing and transitioning manufacturing technology; expanding the capacity of the supply chain; and growing and developing the manufacturing workforce.

Position Summary:

The Full Stack (UI/UX) Engineer 3 will have strong foundational software engineering capabilities with a focus in front-end software development. This position will lead BlueForge Alliance’s efforts to modernize our user interfaces and improve user experience. This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of technology and social impact, leveraging data to support our organizational goals. In addition to the following details, by being a BlueForger, you will be expected to uphold and exemplify our values of Belonging, Selfless Service, Integrity, Leadership, Respect, and Excellence. We uphold these values upon a backbone of humility driven by a culture of safety, vulnerability, and purpose.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead the UI/UX design and frontend development life cycle, translating complex mission workflows and user requirements into clean, high-performance, and intuitive web interfaces.
Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, and UI component specifications using modern design tools (Figma or equivalent) prior to engineering implementation.
Build, maintain, and optimize custom frontend applications utilizing core React.js, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS, adhering strictly to platform and framework constraints without using meta-frameworks like Next.js
Integrate interactive user interfaces directly with the Palantir Foundry platform and platform APIs, building responsive, object-oriented dashboards and operational tools.
Support end-to-end data integration by writing backend scripts and ETL pipelines to clean, transform, and prep raw datasets for frontend consumption and ontology mapping.
Manage component state, render lifecycles, and performance optimizations for data-heavy, interactive visual applications within containerized or platform-embedded environments.
Maintain thorough design systems, code repositories, and technical documentation.
Actively participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, leveraging Jira and Confluence to estimate tasks, track sprints, and communicate progress.
Collaborate cross-functionally with software/data engineers, project managers, and end users to iterate rapidly on feedback.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

Strong frontend engineering experience with deep expertise in vanilla React.js, TypeScript/JavaScript, and modern state management, with a comprehensive mastery of the React lifecycle and performance tuning.
Demonstrated UI/UX design capability, including experience building wireframes, design systems, and mockups in Figma or similar design tooling.
Proficiency with Python and SQL for foundational data engineering tasks, including building basic ETL scripts and structuring raw datasets for application use.
Working knowledge of containerization concepts and modern version control workflows/GIT.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical backend requirements with user-centric visual design.
Self-motivated and adaptable, capable of serving as the team's visual design authority while delivering production-grade full-stack code independently.
Strong ethical standards and integrity.
Detail-oriented, proactive, and adaptable to changing priorities.

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
5 years of post-degree experience, or comparable combined education and experience, in data engineering or a related role, preferably in a non-profit or government contracting environment.
Experience integrating web applications with backend APIs, database layers, and object-oriented data structures; prior experience with or strong aptitude to build within the Palantir Foundry ecosystem
Experience operating within Agile/Scrum frameworks using Jira and Confluence.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Remote/Hybrid Location Requirements:

Employees conducting work in a remote (or hybrid) environment are expected to maintain compliance with the employment standards set forth in the Team Member Manual and particularly mindful of the sections related to Remote Work Policy and Workplace Guidelines.

Travel Expectations:

Expected travel: Up to 10%.
** Periodic travel to HQ or DC office for meetings may be required.
