Original job description

About Blank Street:

At Blank Street, we’re on a mission to become the defining food and beverage brand of our generation. From the very beginning, we’ve set out to add a spark to ordinary experiences through elevated products, attention-to-detail, and a commitment to making every moment memorable. We’re motivated by the millions of customers we serve across cities, and know that our potential is unlimited. It all starts with our people and their commitment to make magic happen each and every day. Like the sound of this? Keep reading.

Add a Spark to the Ordinary...

Shift Leads at Blank Street don't just run shifts, they set the standard. You're the heartbeat of the store: keeping the floor moving, holding the bar high, and making sure the team shows up as the best version of themselves every single shift. The details are the whole point - the drink that's made exactly right, the customer who leaves happier than they came in, the shift that runs like clockwork.

We’re opening in LA for the first time, and the Shift Lead role carries real weight. We expect our Shift Leads to care deeply equally for our customers and their team. We celebrate wins together, whether it’s beautiful latte art or a meaningful customer interaction. Shift Leads set the tone, building pride, energy, and a strong sense of camaraderie across the team. You're not inheriting a culture, you're building it. How this team operates, how this store feels, and how Blank Street lands in a brand new city starts with you.

Who We’re Looking For

A strong people leader - you coach in the moment, give clear direction, bring out the best in people, and love being a part of their growth
Friendly and passionate about hospitality - you’re always leading by example to make a customer’s day
Detail obsessed - you hold a high bar for product quality, cleanliness, and organization, and ensure standards are met consistently across your team
Operationally minded - you act with intent, purpose, and ownership to keep shifts running smoothly, efficiently, and on rhythm
Adaptable and solutions-oriented - you stay calm under pressure and flex as things change in a fast-paced environment
Passionate about coffee and/or matcha - you lead by example and share that enthusiasm with your team
Inclusive team builder - you foster a positive, respectful environment and know how to bring different personalities together

What You’ll Own

Lead the shift with clarity and confidence directing, coaching, and supporting the team while owning the floor
Train new team members alongside your General Manager and the Training Team
Continue to train others as we evolve to ensure we are achieving our standards across product quality, safety, and hospitality
Delight our customers with consistent, welcoming and engaging hospitality, taking the opportunity to turn every customer into a regular
Step in to handle customer or team issues in a calm, positive, and solutions-oriented way
Maintain a clean and organized environment upholding both Local Department of Health and Blank Street standards at all times
Be an integral part of our world class team using the best equipment, coffee, and matcha in the industry
Partner with our Operations and Marketing teams for events and promotions to expand our brand to new customers
Set your team up for success by mastering different company procedures such as cash handling, inventory, waste tracking, and opening and closing processes

Requirements

2+ years’ experience in a customer service leadership position (e.g. Shift Leader Shift Supervisor, Key Holder), preferably in hospitality, coffee, or beverage
18+ years of age
Able to lift 25+ lbs, and to stand for long periods of time
Availability that meets the needs of our cafes
Full Time: 30-40 hours per week, 4-5 days per week and must be able to work 2 peak days (peak days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
Weekend and holiday availability preferred
You must be authorized to work in the U.S.: upon acceptance of a job offer and completion of the Form I-9 with acceptable documents, Blank Street will provide the federal government with employees’ Form I-9 information to confirm authorization to work in the U.S. (a process known as ”E-Verify”)
Blank Street will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in accordance with the California Fair Chance Act

A comprehensive Barista accreditation and training program
Tenure based paid time off
