Why this role matters Every error that reaches a customer starts upstream: a transfer received at the wrong count, product put away without a location, a pallet released from QC hold without a tag. This role owns the front half of the warehouse so the Shipping Lead can own the back half. When receiving is counted at the dock, every unit sits in a scanned Luminous bin, QC hold is tagged and segregated, and daily cycle counts catch variances the day they happen, shipping accuracy takes care of itself. Position summary The Inventory Control Lead owns inbound receiving from Brooksville and outside suppliers, put-away to Luminous bin locations, inventory accuracy and the daily cycle-count program, FIFO and shelf-life rotation, the physical handling and documentation of product on QC hold, quarantine and damage, and the outbound quality audit: a documented process for auditing orders before they ship and confirming that every product going out meets the customer’s specifications. The lead works on the floor, operates a forklift daily, gives direction to the associates and temporary workers assigned to receiving and counting, and is the trained backup for the Shipping Lead on pick, pack, ShipStation, and retailer orders. Outbound shipping, carrier scheduling and retailer compliance remain with the Shipping Lead; the two leads cover each other. What this role owns, shares, and does not own Scope Detail
Owns Inbound receiving (Brooksville transfers and supplier deliveries): count at the dock against the transfer or PO, photo, discrepancy reporting the same day, receipt into Luminous; put-away to the assigned bin and scan; bin accuracy; the daily cycle-count program by ABC class, variance investigation and the variance log; FIFO and shelf-life rotation; QC hold, quarantine and damaged-goods areas: segregation, tagging (reason, date, release owner), release staging and records; the outbound quality audit program: audit of shipped orders against the order, label, packaging and customer specification, the audit log, and root cause on defects found; receiving, inventory and outbound-audit SOPs and training; the year-end physical inventory execution.
Shares Slotting: the Warehouse Manager decides where product lives (by velocity and channel); this role executes the moves, keeps bin assignments accurate in Luminous, and proposes re-slots based on what the counts show; Systems & QC maintains the slotting model, SKU data and A/B/C classifications. 5S in the receiving, storage and QC-hold zones (with the Warehouse Manager); outbound pick, pack and ShipStation as backup to the Shipping Lead; safety and forklift program (with the Warehouse & Fulfillment Manager).
Does not own Outbound shipping management, carrier scheduling, retailer routing-guide and EDI/portal execution (Shipping Lead); product quality decisions and QC release authority (Brooksville Production and QC; this role audits that what ships matches the spec, it does not decide whether product passes); freight sourcing and contracts (Finance & Procurement); hiring and corrective action (Warehouse Manager).
Responsibilities
Champion Black Diamond Coatings’ core values
- Embody and promote the company’s core values on the warehouse floor every day.
- Set the standard for the dock and the racks: every count, every label, every location, every time.
Receiving
- Receive every Brooksville transfer and supplier delivery against its document: count at the dock, photograph the load, record and report discrepancies to Brooksville and the Warehouse Manager the same day, and receive into Luminous at the verified quantity and unit of measure.
- Inspect for damage and leaks on arrival; segregate and document damaged product.
- Put product away to its assigned Luminous bin and scan it; nothing sits on the floor without a location.
- Maintain complete receiving records: transfer documents, photos, discrepancy reports, receipts.
Inventory control
- Run the daily cycle-count program by ABC class; investigate every variance to root cause (receipt not posted, mis-pick, unit-of-measure error, unrecorded damage) before any adjustment is made; keep the variance log current.
- Keep bin assignments, units of measure and lot/date data accurate in Luminous; flag SKUs that should be re-slotted.
- Enforce FIFO and shelf-life rotation for dated product.
- Lead the year-end physical inventory execution: prepare sheets, count, reconcile, document.
QC hold and quarantine
- Maintain the QC hold, quarantine and damaged-goods zones: only held product in them, all held product in them, every pallet tagged with reason, date and release owner.
- Stage released product for put-away or shipping the day release is received; move nothing out of hold without a documented release from Brooksville QC.
- Keep the QC hold log and support Brooksville QC with samples, photos and counts on request.
Outbound quality audit
- Create and run the order audit process: before a truck or parcel run closes, pull a defined sample of packed orders (100% of retailer truckload orders and a set percentage of parcel orders) and verify SKU, quantity, lot/date, label placement, packaging, pallet build and routing documents against the order and the customer’s specification; record every audit and every defect in the audit log.
- Create and maintain the customer specification sheet for each retailer and channel (Lowe’s, The Home Depot, Walmart, Amazon, Zoro, DTC): label position, case and pallet configuration, packaging, documentation, anything the customer will fine or refuse for; work with Customer Success and the Shipping Lead to keep it current.
- Confirm product condition before it ships: no dented, leaking or mislabeled units, correct UPC, correct lot/date, no product past its ship-by date.
- Root-cause every defect found or reported (customer, carrier or chargeback) with the Shipping Lead and the Warehouse Manager; fix the process, not the person; track whether the defect recurs.
- Write the outbound audit SOP and the specification sheets; train every associate and temp who packs or loads; refresh training when a specification changes.
Backup to the Shipping Lead
- Become proficient in pick, pack, ShipStation (Scan to Verify, Scan to Print), retailer portal orders and Amazon shipments within 90 days; run the outbound queue when the Shipping Lead is out.
- Cross-train the Shipping Lead on receiving and counting so coverage runs both ways.
Safety, 5S and SOPs
- Operate a forklift daily in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178; complete pre-shift inspections.
- Maintain 5S standards in receiving, storage and QC-hold zones; close audit findings in those zones.
- Write and keep current the SOPs for receiving, put-away, cycle counting and QC hold handling; train associates and temps to them.
Day-to-day direction
- Assign and direct associates and temps on receiving and counting tasks; report attendance and performance observations to the Warehouse Manager.
- Communicate daily with Brooksville Production on inbound transfers and with the Shipping Lead on what is available to ship.
