Make an Impact. Help Shape the Future of HR.

At The Children’s Center for Communication/Beverly School for the Deaf (CCCBSD), communication comes first.

For 150 years, CCCBSD has been dedicated to enhancing the lives of Deaf and/or disabled individuals, their families, and communities through person-centered, specialized educational programming in a language-rich, inclusive environment.

Today, approximately 150 employees bring that mission to life. We’re looking for an experienced HR & Payroll Coordinator who enjoys supporting people, takes pride in accuracy and organization, and is ready to independently manage our full-cycle biweekly payroll while making a meaningful contribution to the employee experience.

About the Opportunity

This is an exciting time to join CCCBSD’s HR team.

We’re investing in the future of our organization by transitioning from primarily paper-based HR processes to a more connected, digital environment.

We’re implementing BambooHR as our central HR and payroll platform and Bullseye K-12 to support performance management and professional growth, while continuing to improve the systems that support recruitment, benefits, employee training, and the overall employee experience.

Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, you’ll independently manage the organization's full-cycle biweekly payroll while serving as a key member of a growing HR Team. You'll also support benefits administration, onboarding, HR systems, and day-to-day HR operations, helping build more efficient, consistent, and employee-friendly processes.

Payroll at CCCBSD involves varied employment classifications, school-year and year-round schedules, annualized compensation, multiple assignments, and additional hours. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable navigating these complexities and takes pride in getting the details right.

This position offers broad exposure to HR, payroll, benefits, recruitment, compliance, and HR technology, with opportunities to contribute ideas and help shape the continued development of our HR function.

You'll play an important role in ensuring employees receive accurate, timely, and confidential HR and payroll services, contributing to a positive employee experience.

What You’ll Do

Payroll & Timekeeping

  • Independently manage the complete biweekly payroll cycle for approximately 150 employees, including timecard review, payroll adjustments, processing, reconciliation, and submission for review and approval.
  • Administer payroll across varied employment classifications, schedules, and compensation arrangements, including leave, additional assignments, stipends, reimbursements, deductions, and adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies, respond to employee and supervisor questions, and maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Coordinate payroll reporting, retirement contribution submissions, and related reconciliations with Finance and benefits providers.
  • Support the implementation, testing, and ongoing administration of BambooHR Payroll while strengthening payroll procedures and internal controls.

HR Operations & Employee Support

  • Coordinate recruitment activities, including job postings, applicant communications, interview scheduling, reference checks, and hiring documentation.
  • Manage routine onboarding, offboarding, background checks, employment verifications, employee status changes, and personnel records.
  • Serve as a welcoming and responsive resource for employees, addressing routine HR inquiries and escalating matters requiring HR Director review.
  • Maintain and organize HR documentation, including the employee handbook, job descriptions, policies, forms, and employee communications, incorporating approved updates and maintaining version control.
  • Coordinate recurring HR administrative activities, including training and compliance tracking, performance evaluation reminders, employee recognition, and routine reporting.
  • Prepare recurring HR and payroll reports, including headcount, employee changes, turnover, recruitment activity, and other workforce metrics.

Benefits, Retirement & Leave Administration

  • Coordinate benefits enrollment, qualifying life events, annual open enrollment, and routine employee benefits administration.
  • Manage benefit carrier invoice reconciliation, employee payroll deduction reconciliation, and employee premium billing.
  • Administer recurring 401(k) activities, including biweekly contribution uploads, contribution reconciliation, and employee account changes, while supporting annual compliance and reporting activities.
  • Manage routine administrative aspects of employee leaves, COBRA, and related documentation.
  • Support workers’ compensation documentation, unemployment claims administration, and HR audit preparation.

HR Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support the implementation, ongoing development, and administration of BambooHR, including employee data, digital records, onboarding workflows, reporting, and process improvements.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing administration of Bullseye K-12, including performance evaluation workflows, tracking, reporting, and related employee and supervisor support.
  • Maintain accurate information across HR-related systems and coordinate with internal teams and external providers to support recruitment, benefits, training, and other employee processes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen data accuracy, improve recordkeeping, and enhance the employee experience.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, checklists, and documentation to support consistent HR and payroll operations.

Business Office Collaboration

  • Provide defined administrative support to the Business Office, including vendor setup, W-9 collection, invoice processing, and preparation of approved payments, following established financial controls and procedures.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least three years of relevant experience in human resources, payroll, benefits administration, or a related field, including demonstrated hands-on experience independently processing payroll.
  • Ability to manage a complete payroll cycle, investigate discrepancies, and meet recurring deadlines with accuracy and minimal oversight.
  • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential employee and financial information.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly, collaborative, and service-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, digital recordkeeping, and HR or payroll systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and an interest in improving processes and learning new technology.

Preferred qualifications include experience with BambooHR, Bullseye K-12, or comparable HRIS, payroll, and performance management platforms; HRIS implementation or digital process improvement; Massachusetts payroll practices; annualized compensation or multiple pay rates; benefits administration; QuickBooks; and educational or nonprofit organizations.

A degree or professional certification is welcome, but relevant practical experience is equally valued.
