AI & Automation Engineer
Manchester, NH | Full-Time, Hybrid | Exempt
At Bellwether Community Credit Union, you'll have the opportunity to turn ideas into practical technology solutions that eliminate repetitive tasks, improve accuracy, and give our employees more time to focus on what matters most. From developing AI-powered workflows to connecting systems and improving how we use data, you'll play an important role in shaping how we work.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building, experimenting, solving problems, and seeing the results of their work. You'll collaborate with teams across the credit union, as well as our technology partners, to develop solutions that deliver measurable value while maintaining the security and confidentiality our members expect.
What You'll Do
• Design, build, and launch AI-powered solutions and automated workflows that simplify everyday business processes.
• Partner with departments across the credit union to identify opportunities for automation, understand business needs, and measure the results.
• Develop scripts, integrations, and automated processes using Python, SQL, PowerShell, APIs, and workflow automation tools.
• Apply AI and large language model (LLM) technologies to practical business needs, including document processing, information retrieval, and workflow automation.
• Connect systems and improve how data is collected, organized, validated, and reported.
• Monitor and maintain automations in production, ensuring solutions remain reliable, secure, and effective.
• Work with our core banking vendor and managed service provider (MSP) on system integrations, data connections, and technical improvements.
• Evaluate emerging AI tools and technologies and recommend solutions that align with business needs, cost, and security requirements.
• Maintain clear documentation, performance reporting, and procedures to support ongoing operations and compliance.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in software development, scripting, automation, data engineering, analytics, or systems integration.
• Experience working with confidential information in a financial institution or other regulated environment.
• Credit union or financial institution experience is a plus.
Technical Skills
• Strong experience with Python and SQL, along with PowerShell or a similar scripting language.
• Experience working with REST APIs, JSON, CSV, flat files, and SFTP integrations.
• Familiarity with workflow automation platforms such as n8n, Power Automate, or similar tools.
• Hands-on experience applying AI or LLM services to business solutions, including document processing, prompt design, and agent workflows.
• Experience working with relational databases, data extracts, transformations, and reporting.
• Familiarity with Git or other version control tools and technical documentation.
Additional Experience We'd Love to See
• Familiarity with core banking systems and credit union operations.
• Experience working with software vendors or managed service providers.
• Knowledge of Power BI or similar reporting tools.
• Exposure to cloud, on-premises, or containerized application environments.
• Awareness of financial industry security and regulatory expectations, including GLBA, FFIEC, and NCUA guidelines.
The Qualities That Will Help You Succeed
• A natural problem-solver who enjoys figuring out how things work and finding better ways to do them.
• Curious about emerging technology and excited to explore how AI can solve real business challenges.
• Able to balance multiple projects, prioritize deadlines, and work independently.
• Comfortable explaining technical concepts to employees, leadership, and outside partners.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to protecting confidential information.
