Job Summary:
The Innovation Optimization & Scaling Solutions Manager reports directly to the Chief Innovation Officer and leads the enterprise effort to find solutions that already work on Bechtel projects and make them available to every GBU. Proven tools too often stay on one project while other projects rebuild them; this role closes that gap by harvesting, hardening, and generalizing GBU-developed solutions so they can be deployed at scale. Success is measured by capability transferred into the business, not by a P&L.
Major Responsibilities:
- Identify and harvest proven solutions built by GBUs and projects, working with GBU and Project Managers of Innovation to surface tools that deliver results in the field.
- Work closely with the five GBU Managers of Innovation, Project Managers of Innovation, GBU Solution Development, and GBU Solution Deployment teams, and the EPC functions.
- Assess candidate solutions for technical maturity, field results, data dependencies, user adoption, and fit across project types.
- Lead the hardening and generalization of selected solutions with IT, cybersecurity, data, and intellectual property (IP) teams so they meet enterprise standards without losing what made them work.
- Prove generalized solutions on a small number of projects and in a second GBU before recommending enterprise standardization.
- Define and administer readiness and scaling gates with clear, light criteria for moving a solution from project use to multi-GBU deployment.
- Own the enterprise solution catalog and registry so project teams can find existing solutions and duplicate builds are stopped.
- Develop total cost of ownership estimates and sustainment models, and agree ownership, funding, and support before handoff.
- Partner with GBU Managers of Innovation and Enterprise Solution Deployment to hand off scaled solutions with documentation, training materials, and support arrangements in place.
- Keep originating project teams engaged as champions and storytellers for the solutions they built.
- Coordinate with GBU Solution Development teams and Enterprise Development to avoid unintentional parallel builds and feed field lessons into enterprise development.
- Track and report capability transferred, reuse across projects and GBUs, and cost avoided by eliminating duplicate builds.
- Travel to GBU offices and project sites to assess solutions in use and support second-GBU proving.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, construction management or a related field and 12 years of relevant experience, including 5 years leading teams or programs or in lieu of degree, requires 18 years relevant experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with large construction project execution.
- Multi-discipline knowledge across project execution, including engineering, procurement, construction, and project controls.
- Experience as a change agent, leading people and teams through new ways of working.
- Cross-functional and cross-business experience, including work across more than one GBU or function.
- Familiarity with Bechtel's work processes and procedures.
- Experience evaluating, implementing, or scaling digital tools or work-process improvements on projects.
- Working knowledge of the IT, cybersecurity, data and IP requirements that apply to enterprise solutions.
- Ability to travel to GBU offices and project sites as required.
Preferred:
- Product management experience, including roadmaps, release planning, and user feedback.
- Experience scaling digital or software products across multiple business units or geographies.
- Portfolio management experience, including prioritization and stage-gate decisions.
- Experience building total cost of ownership and sustainment models for enterprise software.
- Experience working in more than one Bechtel GBU.
