Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers.

Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

Job Summary:

The Electrical Workface Planner is responsible for developing and maintaining Installation Work Packages (IWPs) for electrical construction scopes in accordance with the project Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) program. Reporting to the AWP Manager, you will translate Construction Work Packages (CWPs) into field-ready, constraint-free IWPs that give electrical superintendents, foremen, and craft everything they need to install work safely, efficiently, and in the correct sequence.

The successful applicant will work closely with electrical field engineers, superintendents, project controls, materials management, scaffolding, and other discipline planners to identify and remove constraints, verify material availability, and maintain a backlog of released work packages that supports the construction schedule across the Fab, support buildings, and utility facilities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop Installation Work Packages for electrical scopes, including cable tray and conduit, cable pull and termination, grounding, lighting, power distribution equipment, motor control centers, switchgear, transformers, and instrumentation interfaces.
  • Break down Construction Work Packages into IWPs sized to the project's AWP requirements, with clear scope boundaries, work steps, and installation sequence.
  • Assemble package content, including drawings, cable and raceway schedules, specifications, vendor data, material lists, ITP and inspection requirements, safety and permit requirements, and quantity and budgeted hours.
  • Identify and track package constraints such as engineering holds, RFIs, material shortages, scaffolding, access, predecessor work, and permits, and work with the responsible groups to remove them before release.
  • Verify material availability through the project materials management system and coordinate reservations and issuing with the warehouse for released packages.
  • Coordinate with electrical field engineers on design changes, field change documentation, and constructability issues affecting work packages.
  • Maintain a backlog of constraint-free IWPs ahead of the construction look-ahead schedule, and support weekly planning and package release meetings with superintendents and project controls.
  • Perform field walkdowns to confirm package scope, access, and site readiness, and to verify field progress against package content.
  • Track IWP status, installed quantities, and package closeout, and provide progress and backlog data to project controls.
  • Close out completed work packages, ensuring redlines, inspection records, and quality documentation are complete and turned over for as-built and turnover requirements.
  • Coordinate interfaces with other discipline workface planners and with system turnover boundaries to support sequencing and mechanical completion.
  • Use project AWP and 3D model tools to extract package information and visualize scope, sequence, and constraints.
  • Complete training requirements assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university, and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Basic Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of electrical construction methods, including raceway, cable installation and termination, grounding, and power distribution equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, plan drawings, cable and raceway schedules, and specifications.
  • Understanding of Advanced Work Packaging principles, including CWPs, IWPs, constraint management, and package release and closeout.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and NFPA 70E electrical safety requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" safety program.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Good communication, organization, and problem-solving ability.
  • Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Workface planning or work packaging experience on large industrial, power, data center, or semiconductor projects.
  • Experience with AWP and 3D model tools such as Navisworks, and with project scheduling software such as Primavera P6.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including TEAMWorks, Aconex, Bechtel Productivity System, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.
  • Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes, including Standard Work Process Procedures and the Bechtel Core Processes.
