Original job description

BASIS Austin is seeking candidates for a Facilities Assistant to join our bright, passionate team!

Visit https://enrollbasis.com/texas/austin/ to learn more about us!

At BASIS, we believe that an exceptional learning environment starts with a safe, welcoming, and seamless campus experience. Our faculty and staff thrive in a high-energy, collaborative, and deeply supportive academic community dedicated to student success.

As our Facilities Assistant, you are the backbone of our campus operations - ensuring our buildings run safely, smoothly, and efficiently so our teachers can teach and our students can excel.

The Opportunity

If you take pride in hands-on problem-solving, enjoy leading campus safety initiatives, and excel at juggling vendor management with real-time site needs, this role is for you.

Working closely with the Head of Operations, you’ll take full ownership of campus upkeep, vendor coordination, and emergency preparedness. No two days are the same, and your work directly impacts hundreds of students and educators every day.

Key Responsibilities

Building Maintenance & Hands-On Repairs

Perform timely repairs and preventative maintenance across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general physical plant systems.
Promptly address and fulfill daily staff requests for custodial support, room setup, furniture moves, and HVAC adjustments.
Regularly inspect facilities and grounds to proactively identify and fix maintenance issues, maintaining a clean, debris-free campus.

Vendor Management & Operational Support

Serve as the primary liaison for key third-party contractors (custodial services, large HVAC repairs, landscaping, pest control, and service agreements).
Maintain clear, organized logs and files for all work orders, vendor proposals, safety records, and maintenance contracts.
Collaborate on special projects and support campus events with equipment staging and logistical setup.

Safety & Emergency Preparedness

Serve as Campus Safety Manager overseeing daily traffic flow, carline efficiency, and emergency response procedures.
Maintain, audit, and execute the school’s Emergency Preparedness Program to ensure compliance and peace of mind for staff and parents.

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Requirements

Experience: 2+ years of hands-on building maintenance or facilities coordination experience.
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent (Bachelor’s degree is a plus!).
Clearance: Must possess or be able to obtain valid fingerprint clearance and pass state background checks.

Physical & Technical Capabilities

Ability to stand, walk, and work inside/outside the facility for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment weighing between 25–50 lbs.

Key Strengths We Look For

Decisive Problem-Solver: Able to assess high-priority maintenance or safety issues on the fly and take decisive action.
Organized Project Handler: Proven track record of managing competing priorities, tracking work orders, and hitting deadlines.
Strong Communicator: Outstanding interpersonal skills to interact professionally with staff, vendors, administrative leaders, and parents.
Adaptable & Self-Driven: Thrives in a dynamic environment, works comfortably independently, and adapts procedures as needs evolve.

Why Join the BASIS Ed Team?

Impactful Work: Be an essential part of a top-performing academic community where your contributions are visible every day.
Supportive Culture: Join a passionate, high-energy team that values collaboration and mutual respect.
Professional Growth: Gain broad experience in campus operations, vendor relations, safety management, and facilities management.

Benefits and Salary:

Salary for this position is competitive and dependent on education and experience
BASIS Ed offers a comprehensive benefits package, including but not limited to:
Employer paid medical and dental insurance
Vision insurance
PTO
Ability to add dependents
401k with partial match that grows over time
Employee Assistance Program
