Original job description

ABOUT BALOR GAMES

Balor Games is a "Triple I" independent game publisher dedicated to long-term stewardship of high-quality creative works. Formed by former leaders of Humble Games, Balor Games oversees an expansive catalog of acclaimed indie games, following the acquisition of the Humble Games and Firestoke catalogs.

Balor Games aims to serve as a cultural curator for independent games, while providing expertise, resources, and belief-driven support to visionary developers.

Contractor Engagement Brief

Engagement: Senior Analytics Engineer (Contract)

Engagement Type: Independent contractor (1099 or corp-to-corp); fixed-term project engagement

Term: 6 months from start date, with option to extend by mutual written agreement

Rate: $10,400 - $13,900 per month, depending on experience

Estimated Commitment: Approximately 40 hours per week

Location: Remote (US-based). Availability required for at least four hours of overlap with US Pacific business hours on working days

Engagement Lead: VP, Data & Analytics (primary point of contact and deliverable sign-off)

Engagement Overview

Balor Games is engaging a Senior Analytics Engineer on a six-month contract to deliver three defined bodies of work: a Snowflake data architecture that scales with our growth, agentic automation of routine finance data processes, and a secure, governed Tableau reporting layer. The contractor will own the technical delivery of these projects end to end, coordinating with finance and publishing leads for requirements, data access, and acceptance of deliverables.

This is a hands-on engagement for an experienced practitioner who is comfortable with finance data (revenue, fees, taxes, refunds, royalties, and reconciliations) and can deliver documented, production-ready work within the term. The ideal contractor builds end-to-end pipelines that turn ingested data into actionable reporting and applies disciplined data engineering practices when building AI-assisted tooling.

Scope of Work

Refactor Snowflake pipelines to scale with business growth, building data models that support game and platform growth and improved master data management
Build new ingestion pipelines for marketing metrics and join them to sales data, with data quality checks and monitoring
Build agent-assisted workflows for month-end close, developer payments, recoup tracking, and seller statement validation
Reconcile warehouse data to platform and partner statements and flag exceptions for human review
Add row- and column-level permissioning across the Tableau dashboard suite using a single governed entitlement source

Deliverables

A milestone schedule with acceptance criteria will be agreed in the Statement of Work during the first two weeks of the engagement. Expected deliverables include:

Refactored Snowflake data models and master data management framework, deployed to production with documentation
Marketing data ingestion pipelines joined to sales data, with automated data quality checks and monitoring in place
Agent-assisted finance workflows (month-end close, developer payments, recoup tracking, seller statement validation) with evaluation, logging, and human-in-the-loop controls
Reconciliation framework comparing warehouse data to platform and partner statements, with exception reporting
Governed entitlement model and row- and column-level security applied across the Tableau dashboard suite
Handover documentation and knowledge transfer sessions sufficient for the Balor Games team to operate and maintain all delivered work

Required Experience

5+ years of analytics or data engineering experience, including significant hands-on work in Snowflake (Snowflake Scripting or stored procedures, tasks, dependencies, and streams)
Strong SQL (window functions, CTEs, performance tuning) and Python for pipelines, API integrations, and data validation
Experience with AWS (S3, Lambda, EC2) or equivalent cloud services
Experience building ingestion for many heterogeneous sources: REST APIs, flat-file and S3 drops, Fivetran or similar connectors, and scraped or semi-structured data
Experience designing warehouses that absorb new business units or acquired data sets, including master data and entity mapping
Practical experience building automation with LLMs or agent frameworks in a production setting, including evaluation, logging, and human-in-the-loop controls
Experience building and publishing Tableau dashboards for business and finance audiences
Hands-on experience with Tableau Server or Cloud administration and row- and column-level security (user filters, entitlement tables, data source permissions)
Strong attention to detail, with an instinct for checking numbers against an independent source
Demonstrated track record of delivering independently on fixed-term engagements with evolving requirements and priorities

Preferred Experience

Games industry experience working with platform sales data (PlayStation Partners, Xbox, Nintendo Developer Portal)
Experience with marketing data sources such as ad platforms or Steam wishlist and traffic data
Prior contract or consulting work with small, fast-moving companies

Engagement Terms

The contractor is engaged as an independent contractor, not an employee, and is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and benefits. US-based contractors will be issued a Form 1099-NEC; a completed W-9 is required before the first invoice is paid
The contractor determines the methods, tools, and working schedule used to deliver the work, subject to the agreed overlap window and deliverable dates
The contractor provides their own equipment and workspace. Balor Games will provision access to Snowflake, Tableau, AWS, and other systems required for the engagement, to be revoked at completion
Hours are billed in quarter-hour increments against monthly invoices with supporting time records. Hours above the monthly cap require prior written approval from the Engagement Lead; no overtime premium applies
All work product is work made for hire, with intellectual property assigned to Balor Games. A signed Independent Contractor Agreement and confidentiality agreement are required before the start date
Either party may terminate the engagement on 14 days’ written notice. Balor Games will pay for approved hours worked through the termination date
Extension of the term or conversion to an employed role may be discussed by mutual agreement but is not guaranteed

We are an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected category.
