Original job description

Job Description See what you’re missing. Our employees work on the world’s most advanced electronic and mechanical systems providing the latest in precision guidance and sensing solutions to the Warfighter. Spanning air, land, sea, and space, we are developing the technology of tomorrow, delivered today. Drawing strength from our differences, we’re innovating for the future. And you can, too.

Our flexible work environment provides you a chance to change the world without giving up your personal life. We put our customers first – exemplified by our mission: “We Protect Those Who Protect Us®.” Sound like a team you want to be a part of? Come build your career with us.

BAE Systems, Precision Guidance and Sensing Solutions (PGSS) Product Line within the Precision Strike (PS) Business Area is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer who possess a skilled Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) background to support our SureStrike™ EOIR development programs, a portfolio of Semi-Active Laser (SAL), Imaging Infrared (IIR), and multi-modal seeker solutions. As a senior-level contributor, you will be directly responsible for deeply impactful technical contributions to next generation military autonomy; collaborate with a distributed and highly-skilled development team; as well as influence customer engagement and relationship management. In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in efforts across the full-spectrum of technology maturation ranging from Strategic Initiatives, IRAD/CRAD R&D prototypes, EMD units, LRIP units to full rate production systems – a wealth of opportunity to expand technical breadth and depth for anyone along a technical and/or Chief Engineering career path.

This role will be staffed in Huntsville, AL. In Huntsville, our Engineering team is working in a recently opened state-of-the-art facility and operating in a unique environment where we have the power and resources of BAE Systems behind us while working in a dynamic and flexible model. At BAE Systems, we are looking for team players who have demonstrated experience working successfully in a Technical Team Lead setting.

Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working primarily onsite with some remote potential. Travel is estimated at 10% or less, namely to support SureStrike™ program test event milestones. Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Bachelor's Degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science and a minimum of 6 years' experience
Must be eligible to obtain Secret clearance
Must have demonstrated experience as a Systems Engineer
Direct experience in two or more EOIR technology engineering activities to include analysis, hardware/software design, prototyping, integration, test, and/or verification

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Advanced EOIR domain theoretical knowledge, with balanced understanding of practical SAL and/or IIR hardware and software architectures and tactical implementation
Experience with EO/IR sensor architecture development, requirements derivation, and trade studies
Familiarity with ATA/ATR algorithms
Skilled in developing and using analysis tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, VBA, C/C++ on Windows and/or Linux
Comfortable in a lab setting working with a combination of both hardware and software
