Original job description
Job Description FAST Labs™ is a world-class research organization. Our vision, We secure the future through fearless innovation®, fuels our curiosity and propels our technical teams to take on “never been done before” challenges. FAST Labs defines the next generation of technology across BAE Systems’ Electronic Systems (ES) sector.
We are seeking experienced Program Engineering Managers (PEMs) to lead multidisciplinary research and development programs across our A3 and ST Product Lines. This position offers the opportunity to shape next-generation defense technologies, work directly with government customers, influence technology strategy, and lead some of FAST Labs’ most innovative R&D efforts from concept development through technology transition.
The ST Product Line develops next-generation lasers, precision optical pointers, advanced seekers, and expendables. ST has established itself as a market leader in the development of EO/IR and RF technologies.
The A3 Product Line develops novel technologies ranging from next-generation RF and cyber algorithms to demonstrations of advanced electronic warfare capabilities in integrated systems at government test ranges.
Due to the varying size and complexity of our research and development efforts, a Program Engineering Manager may oversee multiple programs across different technology areas. As a Program Engineering Manager II, you will:
- Serve as the engineering lead and primary technical focal point for assigned programs, providing leadership for strategic planning, program execution, engineering staffing, issue resolution, and risk and opportunity management
- Provide technical and organizational leadership for multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring successful execution of program objectives, technical milestones, and customer commitments
- Tailor and implement engineering processes and best practices to effectively execute research and development programs
- Partner closely with program managers, functional managers, customers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure alignment with program goals and customer expectations
- Lead or support proposal activities, including technical strategy development, solution definition, engineering planning, risk identification, and basis-of-estimate development to help capture new business opportunities
- Support technology maturation and transition efforts, helping move advanced concepts from research and prototyping into customer demonstrations, operational environments, and production programs
- Effectively communicate technical, programmatic, and business performance to engineering teams, customers, and senior leadership through written, verbal, and visual presentations
Work Location Due to the need for consistent in-person collaboration and, in many cases, the requirement to perform work in secure environments, this position is primarily performed on-site at a BAE Systems facility. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered based on program requirements and business needs.Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field
- Active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI and/or SAP accesses.
- Typically 10+ years of experience in engineering, program execution, technical leadership, operations, or related fields
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams executing complex technology development programs
- Strong leadership, collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Experience leading advanced research and development programs for DoD, Intelligence Community, or other government customers
- Experience in one or more of the following technical areas:
- RF and Digital Signal Processing
- Electronic Warfare, Electronic Attack, and Electronic Support
- Cyber vulnerability research and reverse engineering
- EO/IR systems and sensing technologies
- Experience leading large multidisciplinary teams, including subcontractors and geographically distributed organizations
- Experience supporting business growth through capture, proposal development, and customer engagement activities
- Experience leading programs through systems engineering lifecycle activities, including requirements development, integration, test, verification, and demonstration
- Experience transitioning advanced technologies from research and development into operational demonstrations, production programs, or fielded capabilities
- Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and program performance metrics
