Where you will work The Technical Specialist provides critical underwriting support within the Excess & Surplus unit, assisting with submission clearance, documentation, and day-to-day operations across the underwriting lifecycle. The role involves timely processing of new and renewal submissions, loss runs and credentialing requests, and the preparation of binders, endorsements, and regulatory notices. The Specialist acts as a key liaison among Underwriters, Middle Office, Shared Services, Brokers, and other internal and external partners to ensure data accuracy, compliant policy issuance, and high-quality service. The position combines technical expertise with innovation, leveraging AI and automation to streamline processes and enhance customer experience. Excess Casualty: Middle market excess casualty focuses on coverage that provides additional liability protection beyond primary policies for mid-sized businesses, this would include both Umbrella and Excess policies.

What you will be doing What will your essential responsibilities include?

Provide underwriting support for the [Product Line] across the full underwriting lifecycle, from submission clearance to policy issuance and renewals where applicable.
Process submissions promptly and accurately, manage the internal submission mailbox, and collaborate with Underwriting, Middle Office, and Shared Services to respond to inquiries.
Gather, validate, and organize information from brokers, clients, reinsurers, Shared Services, IT, Claims, and Accounting to support risk analysis and issuance.
Prepare and process policy documentation (binders, endorsements, rating/coding, regulatory notices), including urgent/rush requests.
Maintain quality control over output from Shared Services; perform quality reviews before broker/client release.
Maintain and update process manuals, reference documents, and training materials; provide new/refresher training to staff as needed.
Keep electronic files accurate and well-organized to support audits, regulatory requirements, and internal controls; support renewal preparation and process improvements; participate in User Acceptance Testing where applicable.
Act as a liaison across functions and geographies to ensure timely, high-quality service delivery; monitor account information/status, escalate issues as needed, and support reporting or metrics as directed by leadership.
Demonstrate and continuously develop AI acumen by identifying, testing, and adopting approved AI and automation solutions that enhance underwriting support processes, improve client and broker experience, reduce manual effort, and drive operational excellence while adhering to governance, compliance, and responsible AI standards.

We know that sustainability is at the root of a more resilient future. Our 2023-26 Sustainability strategy, called “Roots of resilience”, focuses on protecting natural ecosystems, addressing climate change, and embedding sustainable practices across our operations.

Our Pillars:

Valuing nature: How we impact nature affects how nature impacts us. Resilient ecosystems - the foundation of a sustainable planet and society – are essential to our future. We’re committed to protecting and restoring nature – from mangrove forests to the bees in our backyard – by increasing biodiversity awareness and inspiring clients and colleagues to put nature at the heart of their plans.
Addressing climate change: The effects of a changing climate are far-reaching and significant. Unpredictable weather, increasing temperatures, and rising sea levels cause both social inequalities and environmental disruption. We're building a net zero strategy, developing insurance products and services, and mobilizing to advance thought leadership and investment in societal-led solutions.
Integrating ESG: All companies have a role to play in building a more resilient future. Incorporating ESG considerations into our internal processes and practices builds resilience from the roots of our business. We’re training our colleagues, engaging our external partners, and evolving our sustainability governance and reporting.
AXA Hearts in Action: We have established volunteering and charitable giving programs to help colleagues support causes that matter most to them, known as AXA XL’s “Hearts in Action” programs. These include our Matching Gifts program, Volunteering Leave, and our annual volunteering day – the Global Day of Giving.
