Position Description: General Farmworker

• An active interest in being part of a farm community of a dozen or so people who work together very closely

Apply pest controls, and fertilizer to crops and livestock; plant, maintain, and harvest food crops; and tend to livestock and poultry. Repair farm buildings and fences. Duties may include irrigating crops.

• Record information about crops, such as yields, or costs.
• Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment.
• Dig and plant seeds, or transplant seedlings by hand.
• Harvest fruits and vegetables by hand.
• Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers.
• Inform farm manager of crop progress.
• Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities.
• Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops.
• Participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops.
• Repair farm buildings, fences, and other structures.
• Irrigate/water crops
• Clear and maintain fence lines.
• Mow and trim grounds and fence lines
• Feed and water livestock
• Perform routine health checks on farm animals
