Job Title: Tax SupervisorJob DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Corporate Tax Supervisor to join a collaborative tax team and take ownership of key compliance and operational processes. While the position has a significant focus on indirect taxation, including sales and use tax, VAT, and state and local tax, the role is intentionally broader and offers exposure to a wide range of corporate tax matters. The Tax Supervisor will oversee high-volume compliance activities and serve as a critical review point between the analyst team and senior tax leadership, ensuring that all work is complete, accurate, properly supported, and ready for final review. This role includes direct people-management responsibilities and plays an important part in developing analysts and improving how tax work moves through the team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee recurring sales and use tax, VAT, and other indirect tax compliance activities across applicable jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate U.S. state and local tax compliance requirements and ensure filing obligations are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Review tax returns, reconciliations, workpapers, calculations, and supporting documentation prepared by analysts.
  • Ensure deliverables are thoroughly reviewed, properly supported, and ready for final leadership approval.
  • Manage compliance calendars, workflow, assignments, and deadlines within a high-volume tax environment.
  • Supervise and develop direct reports, providing ongoing guidance, feedback, coaching, and technical support.
  • Serve as an escalation point for analysts when questions, exceptions, or complex issues arise.
  • Research state, local, and indirect tax matters and help determine appropriate tax treatment for various transactions.
  • Assist with VAT and other international indirect tax requirements as needed.
  • Support tax audits, notices, account reconciliations, exemption documentation, and jurisdictional inquiries.
  • Partner with other areas of the tax function on broader corporate tax matters when business needs require additional support.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, simplify workflows, and improve the accuracy and scalability of tax processes.
  • Leverage Excel, tax applications, automation tools, and other technology to improve efficiency in the compliance and review process.
  • Act as a key contributor in a lean tax organization, helping ensure that recurring filings and compliance requirements are met efficiently and effectively.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • Several years of progressive corporate tax, public accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience with sales and use tax and U.S. state tax compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing tax work prepared by others, including returns, reconciliations, and workpapers.
  • Team-lead or people-management experience, including supervising and developing direct reports, strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with high-volume tax data.
  • Experience using tax compliance software, ERP systems, or indirect tax technology.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple filing deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to identify issues independently and escalate material or complex matters appropriately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly.
  • Comfort operating in a lean environment where individuals may support areas outside their primary specialty.
  • Solid understanding of indirect tax concepts, including sales and use tax, VAT, and state and local tax requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • VAT knowledge or international indirect tax exposure is preferred.
  • CPA designation is ideal and considered a preferred credential, but not required unless otherwise specified.
  • Experience with corporate tax departments, public accounting firms, or similar environments is beneficial.
  • Background in roles such as senior Tax Analyst, senior Indirect Tax Analyst, SALT senior, or experienced public accounting senior is helpful for success in this position.
  • Familiarity with tax provisions and forms such as 1120F is beneficial.
  • Experience identifying process improvements, strengthening controls, and implementing workflow enhancements.
  • Interest in taking on broader corporate tax responsibilities beyond indirect tax.

Work EnvironmentYou will work within a lean corporate tax organization that includes analyst, senior analyst, supervisor, and leadership-level responsibilities, providing clear opportunities for growth and collaboration. The role includes direct reports and responsibility for reviewing and developing analyst-level team members, making it well suited for someone stepping into formal supervision and people leadership. The work style is collaborative yet independently driven, with an expectation that you take ownership of your areas while partnering closely with colleagues across the tax function. The pace is deadline-oriented, with a relatively high volume of recurring filings and compliance requirements, particularly in the indirect tax space. You will use advanced Excel skills and learn organization-specific tax and financial systems, as well as tax compliance software and indirect tax technology, to manage and analyze high-volume data efficiently. The scope of work is primarily focused on indirect tax, but you will have opportunities to contribute to broader corporate tax matters as business needs arise. Office schedule expectations (onsite, hybrid, or remote) are not specified and may be determined at a later stage. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miami, FL.
