Original job description

Senior Engineer, Fullstack

About Aspira

For more than 40 years, Aspira has been the market-leading provider of software and services that help public agencies protect natural and cultural resources while making them accessible for all. Our platform supports everything from campground reservations to hunting licenses, helping millions of people discover, enjoy, and care for the outdoors.

We share our client partners’ mission: to steward resources for future generations, create opportunities for genuine enjoyment of the outdoors today, and expand access so more people can experience its benefits.

Aspira is transforming its technology and service model to give agencies more capacity and insight - streamlined tools, smarter automation, and better connections with their communities. Our goal is simple: make it easier for our clients to conserve what matters most and for their customers to enjoy it to the fullest.

The Ideal Candidate

Aspira's Senior Engineer Fullstack engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to define the technical direction and ensure successful project outcomes. They are responsible for building scalable applications on AWS, utilizing services such as Fargate, CloudFront, S3, and PostgreSQL. The role requires a deep understanding of serverless architecture and AWS services to ensure seamless product development.

Key Responsibilities

AI-First Approach
Comfortable letting AI do the heavy lifting and reviewing outcomes rather than reading every line of code.
Daily use of AI coding tools. We use Claude primarily, but also have plans with Cursor and Codex, so candidates who've shipped production work with those are a strong match.
We already have a multi-agent harness established that new hires can plug in to and start using on day 1.
Lead design, development, and deployment of software solutions, ensuring alignment with technical and business requirements.
Design, develop, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs to optimize back-end systems for high performance under varying load conditions.
Implement robust security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance standards such as SOC, PCI, and GovRAMP.
Optimize back-end infrastructure and services with load balancing, database optimization, and caching strategies for high availability and performance.
Define and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate testing and deployment, reducing time to production.
Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers to define the technical roadmap and ensure long-term vision alignment.
Mentor engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Lead technical discussions and decision-making, providing expertise on architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
Conduct code reviews to ensure maintainable, scalable code and adherence to coding standards.
Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to improve software offerings and development processes.

Qualifications

Proven track record of delivering high-quality, scalable software solutions with a strong foundation in software architecture and design principles.
Expertise in TypeScript, with a focus on AWS serverless applications.
Strong problem-solving abilities and experience in analyzing complex technical challenges and developing innovative solutions.
Exceptional leadership and mentoring skills, guiding teams to reach their full potential and making key architectural decisions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effectively articulating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with AWS CDK for infrastructure as code, ensuring scalable, maintainable solutions.
Strong understanding of software security principles, including secure coding practices and leading security-focused initiatives.

Desired Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
5+ years of professional software engineering.
Recent, hands-on experience with:
TypeScript
React (TanstackStart framework preferred)
AWS
Postgres
