Original job description
Position Overview The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating all maintenance activities for the E&I department in a heavy industrial mining environment. This role ensures high equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and adherence to safety and environmental standards by developing detailed job plans, optimizing spare parts management, and coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance workflows through SAP. The position requires a strong electrical engineering foundation, with planning responsibility for medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems and the instrumentation that supports plant operations.
- Develop comprehensive daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance work schedules, prioritizing backlog items, repair requests, and operational requirements.
- Create detailed job packages for major overhauls, projects, and routine maintenance, including work on switchgear, transformers, substations, motors, generators, and battery systems, ensuring strict compliance with OEM specifications and engineering standards.
- Plan and coordinate electrical testing, inspections, commissioning, and functional verification for new and existing assets, and prepare the technical work packages and documentation that support them.
- Review equipment condition and maintenance history, track reliability and KPI data, support root-cause troubleshooting of electrical failures, and coordinate the corrective actions that follow.
- Establish spare parts requirements, create Assembly Parts Lists (APLs) for standard jobs, and prepare detailed documentation for contractor-executed work.
- Establish and monitor weekly PM schedules, tracking and reporting compliance metrics to drive continuous reliability improvement.
- Maintain accurate asset histories, component records, and work order documentation within SAP.
- Enforce and support all company Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies, MSHA regulations, electrical codes and safe work practices, and safety directives across all maintenance activities.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred. A bachelor's degree in another engineering discipline may be considered with directly relevant electrical maintenance experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- 4+ years of experience in electrical maintenance, reliability engineering, or maintenance planning in a heavy industrial environment such as mining, metals, power generation, or oil and gas.
- Working knowledge of MV/LV power distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, substations, generators, battery chargers, panels, and auxiliary systems.
- Experience with electrical testing, inspection, commissioning, or functional verification preferred.
- Proficient in computerized maintenance management systems (SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Solid understanding of MSHA regulations, electrical codes and standards, industrial safety protocols, and environmental standards.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced industrial setting.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to heavy industrial plant environments, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, moisture, dust, vibrations, and noise.
- Required to walk on rough, uneven, or slippery surfaces, work at heights, climb ladders/stairs, enter confined spaces, and occasionally work independently with minimal supervision.
