Job Description

The Surgical Technologist functions as a scrub person in the Operating Room under the supervision of a surgeon and a registered nurse. This role is crucial in ensuring that the O.R. environment is safe, the equipment functions properly, and that operative procedures maximize patient safety. The position requires expertise in surgical techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the utilization of tools and technologies to facilitate safe care during surgical interventions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure completion of case carts according to preference cards; recognize and interpret preference cards for procuring instruments and supplies.
• Communicate effectively with O.R. staff and sterile processing teams to coordinate the instrumentation throughout the day.
• Review daily schedules with the charge nurse and the sterile processing coordinator to identify and address potential turnover delays.
• Assume responsibility for the core phone and communications inherent to the position, delegating duties and coordinating breaks and lunches accordingly.
• Act as a resource for the Surgical Services and Sterile Processing Departments for procuring necessary supplies and instruments for scheduled and unscheduled surgical procedures.

Required Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program.
• Certification from the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Certifications/Licensure

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
