Job Description

The Surgical Assistant works under the direct supervision of the surgeon, demonstrating knowledge in surgical anatomy, operative techniques, and infection control principles. He/She assists in patient preparation and operation during surgical procedures, maintaining clinical competence in pre-op assessments and intraoperative tasks as a First Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently assist with a variety of surgical specialties.
• Participate actively in room turnover.
• Demonstrate proper positioning, draping, and prepping procedures.
• Contribute to reducing surgical supply expenses by minimizing waste.
• Adhere to AORN Standards and Recommended Practices for Infection Prevention.
• Engage in the "Time Out" protocol on all surgical cases prior to incision.

Required Experience

• Three (3) years previous experience as a Surgical Assistant.
• At least 1 (one) year of travel experience.
• Experience in orthopedic, neuro/ortho spine, general/robotics, urology/gyn, and vascular surgeries.

Certifications / Licensure

• Graduate of an accredited program in PA/SA or an International Medical Graduate.
• CPR certification required (BLS AHA).
