Job Description

Under the direction of a radiation oncologist, the Radiation Therapist delivers radiation treatments to patients as prescribed and obtains localization images according to planned treatment delivery. The role involves assisting the physician or nurse in administering contrast agents used during treatment localization and documenting all relevant data accurately.

Responsibilities

• Perform treatment, simulation, fabrication of immobilization devices, and radiosurgery procedures according to written prescriptions and treatment plans.
• Collect and document data acquired during the simulation procedure and accurately input treatment-related data.
• Ensure safety in patient care by following departmental procedures for treatment administration.
• Recognize and report any deviations from prescribed treatment delivery to the Chief Therapist / Physicist.
• Take portal images according to departmental procedures to assure quality of treatment delivery.
• Explain treatment procedures to patients and/or families, responding effectively to their concerns.
• Communicate observed reactions to treatments to appropriate staff members.
• Maintain a safe and orderly treatment room and utilize effective communication techniques.

Required Experience

2 years of experience is required.

Certifications / Licensure

• ARRT Certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• PA Act 31, Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73
