Applied Intuition, Inc. is powering the future of physical AI. Founded in 2017 and now valued at $15 billion, the Silicon Valley company is creating the digital infrastructure needed to bring intelligence to every moving machine on the planet. Applied Intuition services the automotive, defense, trucking, construction, mining and agriculture industries in three core areas: tools and infrastructure, operating systems, and autonomy. Eighteen of the top 20 global automakers, as well as the United States military and its allies, trust the company’s solutions to deliver physical intelligence. We are an in-office company, and our expectation is that full-time employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments. This in-office expectation does not apply to contractor positions
Applied Intuition is looking for map rendering engineers with passion and expertise in owning and maintaining web rendering and editing tools geared towards HD maps for autonomous vehicles.
At Applied we treat maps not as a static dataset, but as a single integrated, self-healing data flywheel powering Physical AI. Fleets of vehicles collect ground truth from multimodal sensors which feed ingestion pipelines, dynamic change detection algorithms, machine learning models, and real-time onboard localization and map fusion - closing the loop between field data collection and instantaneous autonomy stack updates.
All of this map data needs to be visualized and edited performantly. In this full time role on the Maps team, you’ll help us build out map visualization tools that operate at every part of the process of developing an autonomy stack. You will operate across verticals - from long-haul L4 commercial trucks to L2++ personal cars, to heavy mining rigs, and tactical defense platforms - and context - real operations and simulations - to visualize standard and high definition map data, LiDAR point clouds, detailed 3D models and more.
Our map editor is used everyday by mapping specialists at Applied and across our commercial customers to triage and edit maps. We treat it as our map visualization & editing engine’s first and best customer, shipping features every single day to improve the experience. We also use our engine to power other mapping experiences across the company: you will help us build something battle-tested for a diversity of use cases. A successful candidate will be able to work across many contexts, including on-vehicle visualization, to push forward maps at Applied.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and drive forward a 3D WebGPU map visualization and editing engine.
- Integrate the map visualization and editing engine into experiences across the company, including our primary map editor
- Build multiplayer web-based editing experiences
- Hold the line and drive best practices on performance: we expect to run at 120fps on any modern machine for country-scale HD maps
- Integrate mapping tools from across the company and industry, including map querying, map validation and programmatic map transforms
- Help define data storage formats that support map visualization
- Work with other engineers to develop data schemas and APIs that are visualization-friendly
- Work across all 3D experiences at the company to ensure an integrated fit and feel
- Advise customers on the effective use of map visualization to increase product quality and drive forward autonomy programs
REQUIREMENTS
- BS in in Computer Science, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Graphics or related engineering field
- 3+ years working deeply with web-based graphics: WebGL, WebGPU, three.js http://three.js or similar
- 2+ years experience on frontend development including Typescript and one modern frontend framework (React, Svelte, Vue, SolidJS etc)
- 3+ years of experience in mapping, preferably in HD maps used for autonomous driving
- Engineering Practices: Scalable distributed systems, CI/CD workflows, version control, and cross-team collaboration using Jira and Git-based tooling
NICE TO HAVE
- 2+ years working experience in backed programming & systems including: C++, Python, Go, JavaScript, SQL, Linux, and Git
- 2+ years working on performance-critical code in systems languages including: C, C++, and Rust
- Experience with native graphics APIs, particularly on mobile devices
- Experience with WebAssembly
Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
