Original job description
Summary Imagine what you can do here. Apple is a place where extraordinary people gather to do their lives best work. Together we create products and experiences people once couldn't have imagined, and now, can't imagine living without. It's the diversity of those people and their ideas that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do.
Description APPLE INC has the following available in Austin, Texas. Collaborate with hardware, software, and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure products are designed with appropriate manufacturing test coverage and scalable production test strategies. Implement Design for Testability (DFT) methodologies by incorporating Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Engineering Requirements Specifications (ERS) into manufacturing test planning. Support product lifecycle activities from concept, prototype builds through engineering validation, qualification, and ramp to mass production. Develop and implement manufacturing test systems and processes, including test stations, fixtures, and automated test processes used in production environments. Define test procedures and evaluation methods for new products, including specifying test requirements, collecting test data, and recommending improvements to test processes or equipment. Provide engineering support for production test operations, including troubleshooting test equipment, factory bring up, station qualification, resolving test system issues, and performing failure analysis. Apply statistical process control methodologies including SPC, GR&R, and process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk) to validate and monitor manufacturing test processes. Conduct data analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) to identify root causes of product or test failures and improve manufacturing test performance. Work with external vendors, automation suppliers, and contract manufacturers to develop, qualify, and deploy manufacturing test equipment and processes. Document manufacturing test processes and communicate technical findings and engineering updates to internal engineering and operations stakeholders. 15% international and domestic travel. 40 hours/week.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
Experience and/or education must include:
Driving next generation early engagement technical evaluations during product concepts and engineering builds, to driving volume production decisions. Developing end-to-end manufacturing test strategy, evaluating test coverages at different supply nodes, to determine most optimized and suitable placement. Designing and executing controlled experiments using Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques to analyze manufacturing variables and improve test processes, for data drive decisions. Applying Design for Testability (DFT) principles to ensure test stations can be efficiently scaled in manufacturing and achieve adequate test coverage. Applying statistical methods such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk) to monitor manufacturing performance and identify process improvements. Evaluating measurement systems using methods including Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) to ensure reliable test data and measurement accuracy. Coordinating with engineering, software, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to support test development and MP readiness. Engaging with equipment vendors, automation suppliers, and contract manufacturers to develop, validate and maintain new test systems for production. Using structured engineering methodologies to diagnose product or manufacturing test failures and implement corrective actions.
