Part - Time Dispatch

SUMMARY OF WORK:

Under the general supervision of the 911 Supervisor, performs dispatching duties and recordkeeping functions associated with the Law Enforcement Department. Nature of Work: This position is involved in the complex operation of Dispatching police and emergency vehicles, maintaining police files and records, and preparing and submitting various reports. Work is performed in an office setting during assigned shift. Position must adhere to confidentiality of information and records. Position must be able to work under stress and during emergency situations. Knowledge: This position requires a working knowledge of: the practices, procedures and techniques of dispatching, reporting; recordkeeping and filing systems; operation of the main radio console; pager systems and public alarm systems; CJIN and NCIC computer formats; departmental policies and regulations. Skills: This position requires skills in the use and operation of a dispatching and computer system. Abilities: This position is required to have the ability to: record, file and protect police records and documents; accurately type at least 50 words per minute; effectively deal with agitated citizens; remain calm in stressful situations; take rambling and disconnected information and understand it and relay this information in clear, concise terms to the proper agency; establish rapport with fellow employees, supervisors, other agencies and the public

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or GED with two months of on-the-job experience.
• Knowledge of the immediate geographic area is preferred but not required.
• Graduation from the Montana Police Academy telecommunications school is desired.
