Since 1993, AFSI has built a reputation for delivering reliable, high-performance fiber optic systems engineered to operate in the toughest conditions.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be the world’s most advanced harsh environment fiber optic company by building a culture where curiosity is core, teamwork is fostered, continuous improvement is routine, and attention to detail defines our success.

About the Role

The Learning and Development Specialist develops, organizes, publishes, and maintains training content that prepares employees for their roles and supports day-to-day departmental operations. This role partners with subject matter experts across departments to turn work procedures, technical knowledge, and business requirements into clear, practical training materials.

The specialist also administers the Learning Management System (LMS), manages training assignments and completion records, and provides day-to-day support to employees and managers using the system.

What You'll Do

Instructional Design & Facilitation

  • Identify training needs and skill gaps, define learning objectives, and design courses and curricula aligned with departmental and business priorities.
  • Translate procedures and technical information into clear, practical e-learning courses, presentations, videos, job aids, quick-reference guides, assessments, and facilitator guides.
  • Improve new hire onboarding materials and design accessible training for self-paced, instructor-led, and hands-on delivery. Facilitate in-person and virtual group sessions as needed.
  • Coordinate reviews and obtain subject matter expert approval before publishing new or revised training. Maintain an organized library of learning materials, source files, approvals, and version histories.
  • Update training as processes, equipment, systems, policies, or regulatory requirements change. Use learner feedback, assessment results, and on-the-job performance data, when available, to improve content.

LMS Administration and Training Compliance

  • Set up, upload, test, publish, and maintain courses, curricula, assessments, and learning paths in the LMS. Verify that completion tracking works as intended.
  • Assign training by role, department, location, or business need. Configure due dates, completion criteria, and renewal schedules.
  • Manage user access, course catalogs, enrollments, certificates, and completion records. Maintain accurate training records for reporting and audits.
  • Monitor required training, report completion status, and work with managers to address overdue or incomplete assignments.
  • Help employees and managers use the LMS, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with internal support teams or the vendor as needed.
  • Communicate new course offerings, training requirements, and deadlines. Stay current on adult learning practices and recommend tools or technologies that improve content development and delivery.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, Communication, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to satisfy AFSI ITAR requirements
  • 2 or more years of experience in learning & development, training facilitation, instructional design, corporate training, or similar roles.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating professional skills training.
  • Experience managing or administering an LMS (e.g., Cornerstone, Workday, Litmos, Absorb, Dayforce, etc.).
  • Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills, with the ability to learn unfamiliar processes and work with subject matter experts to explain complex information clearly.
  • Ability to design content for various learning styles and modalities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects, review cycles, and deadlines.
