The API Platform Operations and Automation Engineer supports the reliable operation and continuous improvement of the platform. This mid-level role combines hands-on platform operations with behind-the-scenes technical support for API consumers and producers. The engineer will troubleshoot REST API and platform issues, support deployments and routine maintenance, and help improve the team’s infrastructure-as-code, configuration-management, and containerized deployment capabilities.

This role will also identify recurring customer-support and operational needs and translate them into practical improvements. Depending on the problem, the appropriate solution may include clearer documentation, an improved process, a script, a lightweight automation, or a platform enhancement. The engineer will work closely with Infrastructure, Customer Success and Support, User Experience Research, team leadership, and government partners. This is not primarily an evangelist or front-line customer-service role, but it requires the ability to communicate technical findings clearly and participate in customer-support activities when needed.

What Your Day Might Include…

  • Identify recurring support and operational problems and recommend practical process, documentation, automation, or platform improvements.
  • Build and maintain automations using Power Apps, Power Automate, Python, Node.js, or shell scripting.
  • Integrate Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, and APIs to automate intake, approvals, notifications, status tracking, and reporting.
  • Test, monitor, troubleshoot, and document automated workflows, including business rules, exception handling, permissions, and support procedures.
  • Troubleshoot escalated REST API issues involving authentication, access, connectivity, payloads, and gateway errors, and support API validation as needed.
  • Support platform operations, deployments, maintenance, and recovery across AWS and Linux environments, keeping operational runbooks current.
  • Troubleshoot networking, load balancing, security groups, and availability issues affecting Apigee.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Harness, GitHub Actions, or comparable tools.
  • Support infrastructure as code and configuration management using Terraform and Ansible.
  • Support containerized deployments and release management using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
