Original job description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit. Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Leo will help close the digital divide by delivering reliable connectivity to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without dependable internet access.

You will design, build, and deploy embedded software for high-volume consumer electronic devices that connect customers to the Kuiper network. Project Kuiper is breaking new ground with every device we create, and you will be an integral part of bringing this family of products to customers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design and implement embedded software for terrestrial customer devices within the Leo system, working across bare-metal and Linux environments.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle for embedded systems, from requirements gathering and design through coding, testing, and product deployment.
  • Collaborate with hardware, product, and operations teams to translate device requirements into reliable embedded software using languages such as C, C++, and Rust.
  • Troubleshoot and validate embedded software using tools like logic analyzers and schematic reviews, identifying root causes of issues and driving permanent fixes.
  • Mentor fellow engineers through code reviews and documentation, helping maintain high code quality and ensuring new team members can quickly understand how the software is constructed and operated.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life Your day might start with a stand-up alongside hardware and software engineers, aligning on the latest board bring-up progress or a firmware integration milestone. You could then spend focused time writing and debugging embedded code, pairing with a teammate to trace an issue through a logic analyzer. In the afternoon, you might review a peer's design for a new device feature, then sync with the product team on upcoming deployment timelines.

About the team The Leo Customer Terminal Software Team supports the devices that connect customers to the Leo satellite network. We provide embedded application software and the underlying Linux system software for these terminals. We work hand in hand with hardware, product, and operations teams to deliver a great experience for our customers.
