Original job description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a world class Technical Program Manager (TPM) to drive core service programs for AWS Aurora, spanning new feature delivery, operational excellence, and service fundamentals. This is a new, highly visible role with significant scope and leadership exposure.
As an Managed Open Source databases TPM, you will own the large, interconnected cross functional initiatives that make organization wide programs succeed. You will coordinate execution across engineering, product management, engineering management, and UX, managing dependencies, sequencing work, and keeping stakeholders aligned when programs span multiple services and teams. You will be the single threaded owner who identifies the right stakeholders, ensures roadmaps and strategies are set and adhered to, drives release delivery, and provides clear, analyzed status to leadership. You will be a champion for quality, holding the bar and ensuring defects do not move down the line.
You will need strong technical judgment, ideally with experience driving technical architecture, delivery, and operations of a cloud scale database service, to navigate inter team dependencies, identify gaps, and work across teams to deliver results.
Key job responsibilities Key job responsibilities
- Own the lifecycle of complex, cross functional Managed Open Source databases programs from concept to delivery, coordinating execution across the teams and service components involved.
- Manage dependencies, sequence work, and maintain alignment among stakeholders as initiatives span multiple services and organizations.
- Partner with Product Management and Engineering so customer and technical perspectives are aligned before implementation; when alignment is not reached, bring the decision and its trade offs to the appropriate leadership.
- Unblock teams and increase the speed of delivery; negotiate resources and priorities, and drive crisp, timely decisions to keep programs on track.
- Proactively identify risks and bring them to stakeholders with mitigation plans before they become roadblocks; escalate effectively and find a path forward in difficult situations.
- Make sound trade offs between short term needs and long term value, using data and metrics to inform priorities and resource allocation.
- Coordinate larger cross organizational initiatives that require sustained collaboration across engineering teams and service components (for example, platform efforts spanning the console, CloudFormation, and billing).
- Provide clear, concise, and accurate program communication, including status, roadmaps, and narratives, to the right audiences.
- Hold a high quality bar across the program and ensure problems are fixed so they stay fixed.
- Streamline and eliminate excess process, and create predictable, repeatable paths to delivery.
- Mentor and develop others, and contribute to the growth of the TPM community.
A day in the life You will run the mechanisms that move your program forward, coordinating work across teams, negotiating priorities, and clearing dependencies. You will partner with Product and Engineering to keep the roadmap feasible and aligned, drive crisp decisions on what moves forward and in what order, proactively surface and mitigate risks, and communicate clear, timely status and trade offs to stakeholders and leadership.
