Original job description

The AuthRuntimeClient (ARC) team at Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Software Development Engineer to build, deliver, and maintain complex products that delight our customers and raise our performance bar. ARC handles every single request across all AWS Services, sustaining over a billion transactions per second. We are building the most secure, reliable, scalable, and performant authentication and authorization platform on the planet. On this team, you'll have the opportunity to tackle challenging technical problems, innovate for services across all of AWS, and contribute to our high bar on security for all of our customers. You will thrive by being creative, responsible, and curious, working with your team to quickly turn code into customer solutions. This role is for people who are passionate about the massive cloud computing opportunity, delivered high-quality solutions in hyper-growth environments, and want to solve challenging problems at unparalleled scale.

Key job responsibilities Our engineers collaborate across diverse teams, projects, and environments to have a firsthand impact on our global customer base.

You will:

Solve challenging technical problems, often ones not solved before, at every layer of the stack.
Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
Build high-quality, highly available, always-on products.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and solve complex problems from first principles.
Research implementations that deliver the best possible experiences for customers.
Launch, own, support, and continuously improve your solutions for the benefit of our customers.

A day in the life As you design and code solutions to help our team improve authorization across AWS, you’ll write design docs, implement improvements, and resolve the root cause of software defects.

You’ll also:

Build high-impact solutions to deliver to our large customer base.
Participate in design discussions, code review, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
Work cross-functionally to help drive business decisions with your technical input.
Work in a fast-paced development environment, where you’re always working on the most important stuff.

About the team The AuthRuntimeClient team provides authentication and authorization to all services at AWS. We are a critical part of how customers around the world access their resources, which give us global reach and scale. ARC sits at the center of security and innovation, often needing novel approaches to solve complex problems spanning millions of customers and most AWS services. While we move fast, we also have to look around corners and anticipate the peculiar ways AWS services work. On the ARC team, every day is a different challenge! Basic qualifications

3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
Experience programming with at least one software programming language Preferred qualifications
3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
