Original job description

Amazon's Digital Acceleration team is the commerce engine for Amazon's digital businesses, built on a simple premise: build for one, available to all. With over 20 years of proven capabilities and more than 10 billion digital transactions processed in the past year, we power purchases and subscriptions across Prime, Prime Video, Audible, Kindle, Music, Alexa+, Luna, and 40+ other businesses. Now we are transforming these capabilities into a shared, AI-native commerce foundation - providing ordering, transactions, and fulfillment through a unified model, shared gateways, and common client experiences.

As a Software Development Engineer (SDE) on this team, you will design and launch AI-native features that digital product lines can adopt out of the box, without custom integration work. You will write production-ready Java code on AWS, collaborate with Technical Program Managers and Product Managers, and contribute across the full software development lifecycle. If you are a curious engineer who wants to help build the standardized commerce layer behind some of Amazon's most recognized products, we want to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities

Design, implement, test, and deploy AI-native feature standardizations in Java on AWS that digital clients across Amazon can adopt with zero custom integration.
Write logical, well-organized, and maintainable code using optimal data structures and algorithms, making thoughtful trade-offs between performance and readability.
Collaborate with Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and peer engineers on scoping, code reviews, and operational support to ship high-quality software.
Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and contribute to improving system reliability across the ordering platform.
Integrate AI models and AI knowledge bases into commerce workflows, staying current with new technologies to improve productivity and code quality.

A day in the life Your day starts with a team standup where you align on priorities with your Manager, Technical Program Manager, and fellow engineers. From there you dive into coding, building features, writing tests, and refining your implementations based on code review feedback. You might pair with a teammate to debug a tricky ordering flow or prototype a new AI-driven capability that dozens of digital product lines will use. You also participate in operational reviews, learning how your services perform at scale and spotting opportunities to make them better.

About the team Amazon Digital Acceleration powers ordering, subscriptions, and device management for Prime, Amazon Video, Music, Audible, Alexa, and Kindle, amongst other digital businesses. We process billions of digital purchases every year and enable our digital businesses to grow their businesses worldwide. We are on a mission to be earth's best provider of one-time and recurring digital commerce, delivering a seamless and enjoyable post-purchase customer experience.
