Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | School-Based | Kansas City, KS Metro Area

PediaStaff is seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support an elementary student in a welcoming school district in the Shawnee, Kansas area. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a student's educational experience while working as part of a collaborative school team.

This is an active, student-centered role that extends beyond interpreting from a single location. The Interpreter will accompany the student throughout their school day, facilitating communication and supporting access to instruction in a variety of educational settings.

Position Overview

  • Full-time, school-based opportunity
  • School calendar schedule; work on days students are in session
  • School hours: 8:10 AM - 3:10 PM
  • Estimated start time: 7:45 AM based on student arrival
  • Elementary school setting
  • Opportunity to support student communication, engagement, and educational success

Responsibilities

  • Provide sign language interpreting services throughout the student's school day
  • Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, staff, and peers
  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, school activities, and educational programming
  • Support communication access in a variety of settings including classrooms, playground activities, assemblies, and special events
  • Accompany the student during field trips and off-campus educational activities as needed
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to support student participation and success
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional standards in accordance with educational and ethical guidelines

Qualifications

  • EIPA certification, state licensure, or credentials as required by Kansas and district regulations
  • Previous school-based interpreting experience preferred
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of an elementary educational environment

Physical & Environmental Requirements

This is an active educational setting rather than a stationary interpreting assignment. The Interpreter should be comfortable:

  • Moving throughout classrooms and school environments during the day
  • Working both indoors and outdoors
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching, and repositioning to support student participation
  • Traveling with students on field trips, including transportation on school buses when applicable
  • Supporting communication access in a classroom environment where behavioral challenges and active student engagement may occasionally occur

Why Join PediaStaff?

  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Weekly pay via direct deposit
  • Dedicated recruiter and ongoing clinical support
  • CEU and professional development opportunities
  • Access to school-based opportunities nationwide
