CNC Machine Operator

Summary

Operate the CNC cutting machine and support the production team by assembling parts, operating machinery, bending, punching or sawing of metal products as instructed by supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Plans machining by studying work orders and attaining knowledge of materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference plans, locations of surfaces, reading prints and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T.)
• Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
• Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three-and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vicesl; tramming heads.
• Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
• Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces.
• Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions.
• Maintains continuity among work rotations by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Ability to distinguish material types including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper, and brass.
• Use proven measurements and mathematical fraction/decimal conversion skills.
• Maintain knowledge of tooling and tool maintenance.
• Understands and demonstrates lifting techniques.

Skills and Qualifications include:

• Conceptual skills, process improvement, verbal communication, functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation, supply management, tooling, coordination, inventory control, attention to detail, judgment.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Internet software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software, and AutoCAD software.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
