The IT Operations Director leads the day-to-day technology operations of the company: infrastructure, security operations, identity and access, endpoints, and the vendor relationships behind them. The role keeps systems reliable, secure and cost-effective across the corporate office and the plants, and builds a metrics-driven, well-managed operations function. This is an on-site role based in Boise, Idaho, with occasional travel to business locations. Reports to the head of IT and manages the IT operations budget on their behalf.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Own the availability, performance and resilience of servers, storage, networks and cloud services, including backup and disaster recovery across the organization.
- Lead the monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and remediation tracked to defined service levels.
- Govern identity and access: user and service accounts, credentials, privileged access, and multi-factor authentication.
- Manage the endpoint fleet across office and plant environments, including patching, configuration standards and lifecycle replacement.
- Build and report operational metrics (uptime, ticket response, patch compliance, security posture) and use them to drive improvement.
- Apply sound project management to operations work: scoped projects, owners, timelines and status reporting.
- Manage vendor contracts across the organization, renewals and licensing; negotiate terms and hold vendors to agreed service levels.
- Plan and manage the IT operations budgets, forecasting and spend.
- Travel to plant locations to support operations and maintain relationships with site leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Treats cybersecurity as a top priority and weighs it into every operational decision.
- Deep working knowledge of Windows and Linux server environments, virtualization, containers, enterprise storage, networking and cloud identity services.
- Experience running security operations with an endpoint detection and response platform and a SIEM.
- Track record of building operational metrics and dashboards and managing to them.
- Disciplined project management, with a bias toward clear scope, owners and dates.
- Strong vendor and contract management, including license compliance.
- Experience supporting manufacturing or plant environments with 24/7 operations.
- Clear communicator who can explain technical risk to non-technical leaders.
- Security or infrastructure certifications (such as CISSP, Security+, Microsoft or networking credentials) are a plus.
Experience and Education
- 15+ years in IT infrastructure or operations, with at least 7 years leading a team.
- Experience owning an IT operations budget and vendor contracts.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to travel to business sites throughout the organization.
