Original job description

Start Date: Immediate

JHNA, CTSi, and EXPANSIA have come together to form a Defense Technology platform named Aether Aerospace focused on delivering high-impact technologies, technology-enabled services and advanced manufacturing solutions to the U.S. Department of Defense and related national security customers. Backed by Falfurrias Management Partners, the platform brings together deep domain expertise across Army, Navy, and Air Force and Space Force programs, digital engineering, systems integration, and specialized manufacturing capabilities.

The combined organization operates as a multi-entity aerospace and defense technology and tech-enabled services and manufacturing enterprise positioned for scalable growth, operational excellence, and long-term value creation

OVERVIEW

Full-time/Permanent Employee

Location: Remote

Aether Aerospace is seeking a Test Engineer to support the development, integration, and maturation of complex digital engineering solutions from requirements and conceptual design through prototype development and transition. The Test Engineer will plan, execute, and document verification and validation activities across cloud platforms, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), application functionality and user experience, cybersecurity controls, system integrations, and end-to-end engineering workflows.

The initial prototype environment may be implemented in Azure Government, with the longer-term objective of supporting cloud-agnostic architectures capable of operating across additional commercial or government cloud environments. The Test Engineer will help ensure testing approaches, automation, and validation methods are adaptable, scalable, and not unnecessarily dependent on a single cloud provider.

This role will work closely with cloud, software, cybersecurity, systems engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), data, and program teams to ensure capabilities meet approved requirements and are ready for iterative reviews, stakeholder showcases, formal demonstrations, and future transition activities.

RESPONSIBILTIES

• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, test procedures, and test scripts based on approved requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical design documentation.

• Perform functional, integration, regression, system, user acceptance, performance, load, recovery, and end-to-end workflow testing across the prototype environment.

• Validate cloud platform services, initially within Microsoft Azure, including networking, identity and access management, role-based access control (RBAC), logging, monitoring, configuration, and environment provisioning.

• Develop testing approaches that support future cloud-agnostic and multi-cloud deployment models.

• Support STIG evidence collection using tools using tools such as Selenium, Robot Framework, or similar tools.

• Test Infrastructure as Code deployments using Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, OpenTofu, Gitlab CI/CD, AKS or similar technologies to confirm repeatability, configuration accuracy, portability, and deployment integrity.

• Validate CI/CD-enabled deployments, configuration changes, and rollback activities in coordination with development and platform teams.

• Test application functionality, user workflows, usability, accessibility, APIs, interfaces, and system integrations supporting secure digital engineering collaboration.

• Conduct security-focused testing of authentication, authorization, least-privilege access, audit logging, configuration controls, vulnerability remediation, and other cybersecurity requirements.

• Support verification of capabilities operating in a Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)-capable environment and provide test evidence needed for program security and assessment activities.

• Validate representative data-lifecycle processes, data movement, permissions, traceability, and integration across the Digital Engineering Ecosystem.

• Perform functional and integration testing of AI/LLM-enabled services and workflows, including expected behavior, access controls, and interactions with other prototype capabilities.

• Maintain requirements-to-test traceability and document objective evidence demonstrating that requirements have been verified and validated.

• Identify, document, prioritize, and track defects through resolution; retest corrective actions and support root-cause analysis as needed.

• Develop and implement automated test cases using the Pester testing framework to validate cloud automation, runbooks, and infrastructure operations.

• Support automated testing where practical and integrate repeatable test execution into DevSecOps pipelines.

• Assess capability readiness prior to bi-weekly showcases, formal demonstrations, and prototype acceptance activities.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical reviews, backlog refinement, demonstrations, and cross-functional engineering activities.

• Ensure 100% of planned hours are worked and recorded

• Identify and forward to your leadership any opportunities that could lead to growth within your work area

• Participate in growth efforts as requested

• Ensure all contractual deliverables are met/exceeded to the customer's satisfaction

• Complete personal PDP and attend Company Meetings (with camera on)

• Within your program, build productive and positive professional relationships with clients

• Execute all contract requirements as assigned in accordance with the contract-specific LCAT and requirements

• Perform other related duties as assigned

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Clearance: Active Secret clearance Education and Years of Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent) with 5+ years of experience in software testing, systems testing, quality assurance, or test engineering, or a Master's with 3+ years of experience. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

• Experience testing applications, services, or infrastructure in Microsoft Azure or another enterprise cloud environment.

• Experience developing and executing formal test plans, test cases, test procedures, and test reports.

• Experience validating Infrastructure as Code and automated infrastructure deployments.

• Experience with functional, integration, regression, system, and end-to-end testing.

• Experience testing web applications, APIs, system integrations, and user workflows.

• Working knowledge of cloud security concepts, RBAC, authentication, authorization, logging, configuration management, and vulnerability remediation.

• Understanding of cloud architecture concepts and the ability to apply testing approaches across different cloud environments.

• Experience working in Agile and DevSecOps environments and using tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience supporting Department of War or Federal Government programs.

• Familiarity with RMF, NIST security controls, STIGs, or related DoD cybersecurity requirements.

• Experience with Microsoft Azure, with exposure to AWS, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, or other enterprise cloud platforms considered a plus.

• Experience with cloud-agnostic technologies such as Terraform, containers, Kubernetes, or portable CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with automated testing tools or frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Robot Framework, Cypress, Postman/Newman, pytest, Pester, Vitest, or similar tools.

• Experience with Azure DevOps or comparable CI/CD platforms and cloud-native testing practices.

• Experience with usability, accessibility, or UX testing.

• Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital engineering environments, digital twins, engineering data workflows, or governed AI/LLM services.

• Experience supporting formal technical reviews, customer demonstrations, or prototype verification and acceptance activities.
