Job Title: MillwrightJob DescriptionThis role focuses on precision installation, alignment, and fabrication support for complex, large-scale structures using advanced metrology tools and model-based processes. You will interpret detailed blueprints, collect and analyze geometric data, and collaborate closely with fabrication, machining, and engineering teams to ensure high-quality, accurately aligned components that meet demanding technical standards.
Responsibilities
- Use in-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to interpret blueprints at all assembly levels and ensure accurate execution of fabrication and assembly work.
- Collect precise geometric data using laser trackers and model-based metrology software such as Verisurf to support alignment and inspection activities.
- Determine the most effective reference system for each task, establish it accurately, and apply it both on and off the part to guide installation and alignment operations.
- Analyze collected measurement data, evaluate results, and provide clear direction for remaining fabrication, machining, and assembly operations.
- Integrate process monitoring with the fabrication process to accurately locate welding details and machining details on large structural weldments.
- Apply a strong understanding of fabrication processes and environmental effects, including free states, temperature variations, and weld shrinkage, to maintain dimensional accuracy on large structures.
- Perform machining and manual machining tasks as needed to support assembly, adjustment, and alignment of piece parts for structural weldments.
- Support assembly and disassembly activities, including rigging and the use of torque tools, to safely move, position, and secure components.
- Use laser tracking and other metrology techniques to precision locate machines and critical details in demanding or extreme environments.
- Communicate effectively with fabricators, machinists, assemblers, engineers, and other stakeholders to coordinate work, share findings, and resolve issues.
- Generate clear and accurate data reports based on metrology results to document conditions, support decision-making, and track progress.
- Use and learn a variety of software tools to observe, analyze, evaluate, and communicate measurement and process information.
- Maintain the highest level of safety on job sites, proactively identify risks, and propose new ideas to improve safe and effective work practices in new and changing environments.
- Adapt to an extremely dynamic work environment, contribute to teams that may change in size and personnel daily, and support overall team cohesion and effectiveness.
- Demonstrate leadership, dependability, and strong mechanical aptitude while solving problems through diverse thinking and varied experience.
Essential Skills
- Strong millwright skills and abilities within industrial multi-craft and mechanical trades.
- In-depth familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to interpret complex blueprints at all assembly levels.
- Hands-on experience with machining and manual machining in a fabrication or industrial environment.
- Practical experience with metrology and model-based metrology techniques.
- Proficiency using laser trackers and laser tracking methods for measurement and alignment.
- Ability to collect geometric data via laser tracker using model-based software such as Verisurf.
- Experience using inspection equipment including micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, height gauges, optical comparators, profilometers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and laser trackers.
- Solid understanding of geometric relationships and their application to large and small fabrications.
- Understanding of the manufacturing process of large structures from concept to completion.
- Ability to precision locate machines and details in extreme or challenging environments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with piece parts for structural weldments.
- Ability to visualize 3D space and integrate complex geometries onto both large and small fabrications.
- Effective communication skills to interact with fabricators, machinists, assemblers, engineers, and other team members.
- Demonstrated leadership, dependability, and ability to maintain a positive attitude in a dynamic environment.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest level of safety on job sites and to continuously improving safe work practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Two-year associate or technical degree.
- Experience with Verisurf or similar model-based metrology software.
- Experience analyzing metrology data and generating clear, detailed data reports.
- Experience using advanced inspection equipment, including micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, height gauges, optical comparators, profilometers, CMMs, and laser trackers.
- Ability to use and quickly learn a variety of software tools to observe, analyze, evaluate, and communicate technical information.
- Ability to integrate process monitoring with fabrication processes to locate welding and machining details accurately.
- Ability to understand and account for environmental effects such as free states, temperature swings, and weld shrinkage on large structures.
- Ability to adapt to an extremely dynamic work environment while maintaining a positive and solutions-focused attitude.
