Material Handler

Job Title: Material HandlerJob DescriptionThe Material Handler plays a key role in ensuring accurate order fulfillment, secure packaging, and timely staging and loading of shipments. This position focuses on verifying orders, preparing packages using appropriate materials, labeling and manifesting shipments, and maintaining a clean and organized packing area while working collaboratively with the team.

Responsibilities

• Verify orders by confirming that packing slips match the correct quantities and part numbers for all items being packed.
• Select appropriate boxes, containers, packing pillows, or peanuts based on product size, weight, and fragility to prevent damage during transit.
• Apply accurate packing slips, barcodes, and destination tags to packages as provided.
• Move sealed packages to the designated staging area or loading dock, including carrier-specific locations such as parcel shipping areas.
• Stack items onto pallets for volume shipments and ensure they are prepared correctly for transport.
• Shrink wrap and strap palletized shipments to secure them for truck transportation.
• Assist in loading trucks upon arrival to ensure efficient and timely outbound shipments.
• Perform general material handling and packing tasks as needed to support workflow.
• Maintain the packing station and surrounding area in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Collaborate with other packers and shift supervisors to meet production and shipping deadlines.

Essential Skills

• Material handling experience, including palletizing and loading.
• Hands-on experience with packing and packaging processes.
• Ability to stand, bend, twist, and walk for long shifts of 8 to 12 hours.
• Capability to lift and move objects weighing up to 4050 pounds.
• High attention to detail when reading and following work order instructions.
• Effective communication skills to work well with team members and shift supervisors.
• Ability to speak and understand English to follow instructions and safety guidelines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• General labor experience in a warehouse or shipping environment.
• Experience using shrink wrap and strapping materials for palletized shipments.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks.
• Reliability and punctuality to support consistent shift coverage.

Work EnvironmentThis role operates in a warehouse setting across multiple buildings, involving general labor, heavy lifting, palletizing, and shrink wrapping. You will spend most of your shift standing, bending, twisting, and walking while handling packages and materials. The standard shift runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The environment includes active loading docks and staging areas, with regular use of packing materials, pallets, and shrink wrap equipment. Appropriate work attire suitable for a warehouse and material handling environment is expected. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Fremont, CA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
