Job Title: Maintenance TechnicianJob DescriptionThis role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of manufacturing equipment to ensure smooth and reliable production operations. You will work primarily on packaging machines, vacuums, glue spreaders, door machinery, CNC equipment, wrappers, saws, and similar production machinery. The position currently supports a reactive, putting out fires maintenance approach, with a strong push toward implementing more structured preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical issues on packaging machines, vacuums, glue spreaders, door machinery, CNC routers, wrappers, saws, and related equipment.
- Inspect, repair, and replace critical machine components such as belts, pulleys, sensors, conveyors, switches, and control panels.
- Support the transition from a reactive maintenance schedule to a more robust preventive maintenance program to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
- Perform routine maintenance on compressors, hydraulics, pumps, motors, and other power generation and material handling systems.
- Use mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to walk through issues methodically and identify root causes of equipment failures.
- Troubleshoot and work with three-phase motors, control panels, packaging equipment, conveyors, and other industrial machinery.
- Apply electrical knowledge to low-voltage systems and, at higher technician levels, work with 480V systems and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Read and interpret technical documentation, diagrams, and, at advanced levels, PLC ladder logic to assist in diagnosing equipment problems.
- Collaborate closely with production and maintenance team members to prioritize repairs and minimize impact on manufacturing operations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, following facility safety procedures and best practices while working around dust, noise, and moving machinery.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and peers about equipment status, repair timelines, and any parts or resources needed to complete work.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by suggesting maintenance process enhancements and equipment reliability improvements.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing or industrial maintenance environments.
- Hands-on mechanical maintenance experience with power generation systems, including compressors and hydraulic (fluid power) equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proven ability to troubleshoot and systematically walk through equipment issues.
- Mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting skills for industrial machinery and packaging equipment.
- Experience working with three-phase motors, pumps, motors, conveyors, and control panels.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems on CNC routers and other automated equipment.
- Working knowledge of electrical systems, including low-voltage circuits.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing setting and adapt to changing priorities.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work well in a team-oriented culture and maintain positive working relationships.
- For higher technician levels: experience with manufacturing equipment electrical systems, 480V power, and reading PLC ladder logic.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with packaging machinery and related brands of industrial equipment.
- Experience working with hydraulics, compressors, and other power generation equipment in an industrial setting.
- Exposure to PLC-controlled systems and the ability to interpret ladder logic for advanced troubleshooting.
- Comfort working across multiple machine types, including door machinery, CNC equipment, glue spreaders, wrappers, and saws.
- Ability to move between mostly mechanical work (Tech 2 level) and more advanced electrical work on manufacturing equipment (Tech 3 and Tech 4 levels).
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with production and maintenance teams and document work performed.
- Demonstrated reliability and commitment to supporting long, structured shifts in a high-activity environment.
