Job Title: Machinist (Levels I, II, and III Programmer)Job DescriptionThis role offers the opportunity to work as a Machinist across three progressive levels: Machinist I, Machinist II, and Machinist III (Programmer). You will operate and set up CNC and manual machines, interpret blueprints, and help produce high-quality components in an aerospace-focused, clean machine shop environment. Each level provides increasing responsibility, technical complexity, and growth opportunities based on your experience, education, and programming skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to produce precision parts.
  • Set up and operate CNC and manual lathes and mills, including multi-axis machines, to meet production requirements.
  • Perform basic to complex machine setups, including tooling selection, workholding, and program loading, appropriate to each machinist level.
  • Monitor machining operations and make adjustments to feeds, speeds, offsets, and tooling to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Inspect parts during and after machining using appropriate measuring tools to verify that they meet quality and tolerance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues such as chatter, dimensional deviations, tool wear, and machine alarms to minimize downtime and scrap.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area consistent with an aerospace clean machine shop environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to support daily production goals and continuous improvement efforts.
  • For Machinist I: Support daily machining operations, perform basic setups, follow established work instructions, and learn advanced techniques under guidance.
  • For Machinist II: Perform more complex setups, operate with greater independence, identify and resolve machining problems, and contribute ideas to improve processes and efficiency.
  • For Machinist III Programmer: Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs (including use of Surfcam or similar CAM tools), plan machining strategies, and translate engineering requirements into efficient, repeatable machining processes.
  • For Machinist III Programmer: Lead complex setups on lathes, mills, and multi-axis machines, support others with technical guidance, and refine programs to improve cycle time, tool life, and part quality.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings accurately.
  • Hands-on experience with machining operations, including operating lathes and mills.
  • Experience with CNC machine setup and operation, including Haas or similar CNC equipment.
  • Basic to advanced troubleshooting skills for machining processes and equipment issues.
  • Familiarity with multi-axis machining and axis control in CNC environments.
  • For Machinist I: Minimum of 2 years of technical school or college in a relevant discipline, or a minimum of 2 years of hands-on machining experience.
  • For Machinist II: Minimum of 2+ years of technical school or college in a relevant discipline, or a minimum of 3+ years of machining experience.
  • For Machinist III Programmer: Minimum of 2+ years of technical school or college in a relevant discipline, or a minimum of 5+ years of machining experience including CNC programming responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
  • Ability to work safely and consistently in a precision-focused production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using Surfcam or similar CAM software for CNC programming.
  • Prior experience programming and optimizing CNC machines for production work.
  • Experience with Haas CNC machines or comparable controls and platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex setups on lathes, mills, and multi-axis machines.
  • Background or coursework in a technical discipline related to machining, manufacturing, or engineering.
  • Comfort working in an aerospace-oriented environment with high standards for cleanliness and quality.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to contribute to process improvements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a small, close-knit team.
