Why Work Here?
You join a mission-driven safety initiative that helps protect the public by preventing gas leaks and potential explosions, contributing directly to community well-being. The role offers significant growth potential through multi-year programs and ongoing inspection cycles, creating long-term career paths in the NYC metro area. High performers can move into larger programs and more advanced roles, with clear upward mobility and promotion opportunities. Structured training, certification, and field experience provide a strong foundation for a stable career in utility and field services.
Work Environment
This is a 100% field-based position within the utility service territory, primarily in Brooklyn and Queens. You travel daily to job sites using your own vehicle and receive your route and list of addresses via a handheld tablet. Standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday shifts available at the supervisors request and at your discretion. Tailboard meetings typically occur at warehouse locations in Queens or Brooklyn. The role requires extensive walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and working outdoors in all weather conditions. Training begins with OSHA and orientation on Day 1, followed by classroom training during the rest of Week 1, including scenario-based learning, homework, and practice exams that must be completed on your own time. Week 2 focuses on certification testing with multiple exam attempts, followed by four days of job shadowing in the field upon successful completion. In Week 3, your competency is evaluated based on your ability to complete inspections independently using provided tools; successful completion leads to independent field work, while additional training or termination may occur if standards are not met. The company views the first 90 days as a probationary period with close performance monitoring. Equipment provided includes a simple tool set, flashlight, gas detector, field binder for paperwork, ID badges, tools and tool belt, handheld tablet, flame-resistant shirts, pants, safety vest, and hard hat.
