Job Title: CNC Machinist / CNC ProgrammerJob DescriptionThis hands-on role combines CNC programming and machining to support the full manufacturing process from program development through setup, first-piece verification, production, and final inspection. You will develop and refine CNC programs, perform complex setups and changeovers, troubleshoot machining issues, and ensure that components are produced safely, efficiently, and to exact specifications. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working on the manufacturing floor, solving technical problems, and applying both programming knowledge and practical machining experience.Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs for production components to meet quality, throughput, and cost targets.
- Translate engineering drawings, specifications, and dimensional requirements into effective machining processes and CNC programs.
- Determine appropriate machining sequences, tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, offsets, and cutting parameters for each job.
- Modify existing CNC programs to improve quality, repeatability, cycle time, tool life, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
- Troubleshoot CNC programs and machining processes when dimensional, tooling, surface finish, or production issues occur.
- Maintain and revise existing CNC programs as products, tooling, equipment, or manufacturing requirements change.
- Perform program prove-outs and complete first-piece production runs before releasing work for routine manufacturing.
- Independently perform CNC machine setups, changeovers, and tooling changes for a variety of parts and operations.
- Set and adjust work offsets and tool offsets to achieve required dimensions and tolerances.
- Select and properly use cutting tools, tool holders, fixtures, inserts, boring bars, and other machining accessories.
- Operate CNC equipment to verify programs, establish stable machining processes, troubleshoot problems, and support production needs.
- Monitor machining performance during production and make appropriate adjustments to maintain part quality and throughput.
- Support CNC operators with complex setups, program adjustments, and machining issues on the shop floor.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, dimensions, and tolerances to ensure accurate part production.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment to verify compliance with specifications.
- Use calipers, ID/OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, scales, and other precision measuring tools accurately and consistently.
- Identify dimensional variation and determine whether corrections should be made through tooling changes, offsets, setup adjustments, programming edits, or other machining changes.
- Produce components that consistently meet established quality specifications and documentation requirements.
- Collaborate with manufacturing leadership, engineering, quality, and production employees to resolve machining and manufacturability issues.
- Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, setup efficiency, tool life, cycle times, part quality, and equipment utilization.
- Provide technical guidance and support to CNC operators on established programs, setups, tooling, offsets, and machining best practices.
- Help develop and document consistent setup and machining practices that improve repeatability and reduce variation.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient machining environment and follow established safety, quality, and work procedures.
- Respond flexibly to changing production priorities and support occasional extended hours when needed to meet production demands.
